PASTORAL COLUMN

Dear parishioners of St. Elizabeth, St. Leonard, and
Our Lady of Victory,
In a speech this past Monday Pope Francis spoke
strongly in favor of Covid vaccination as the most
reasonable solution for saving lives and the prevention
of the disease. I believe Pope Francis is very much in the
same vein as the “wise men” of our recent feast of
Epiphany….the astrologers who prayed and “followed the
science” to find the Christ Child. Their faith was
enlightened by their study and knowledge of the stars in
the night sky. They were not swayed by conspiracy
theories against Jesus; they were not duped by the
corrupt politics of wicked King Herod. From the
beginning, Pope Francis has said that to get vaccinated
is the loving thing to do. Love is the greatest
commandment. To get fully vaccinated (unless medically
unadvisable, of course) is a loving deed for yourself and
all others. Those who have become seriously ill and
those who have died are a stark reminder, as is the
highly contagious nature of the current variant. Let us
follow the star of both faith and good science…. Let us
love one another as He has loved us...love is still the
greatest gift. Our love includes our continued good care
of the sick, wearing masks when appropriate, comforting
all who are grieving the loss of loved ones, and our
patient endurance of short term inconveniences brought
by protocol and best advised practices to help see us
through this time. God bless and guide us all! Fr. Alan

“To each individual the manifestaon of the Spirit is

St. Paul tells us that God has blessed each of us for a
reason. How has God blessed you? Are you using your
giPs according to God’s plan? How are you helping to
build God’s kingdom here on earth? Remember that if
you don’t do the work God planned for you, no one
else can do it. Live the life God has intended for you.
Take me to discern your charisms (giPs from the Holy
Spirit). Experience the supernatural peace and joy God
desires for each of us.
