Adapting to Life in Okinawa
Japanese Spouses’ Workshop This monthly workshop will enable Japanese spouses to expand their network, make new friends, and share information while strengthening military families and enhancing mission readiness. Japanese & English Conversation Group A one hour conversation group fostering language and cultural exchange between Americans and Japanese participants. Kimono Wearing Learn about the rich history of the Japanese kimono and learn how to wear this traditional style of dress. Bring a camera to take photographs.
Washi Craft Learn to make decorative items with traditional Japanese craft paper.
Sanshin for Beginners Learn a traditional Ryukyu song on the Sanshin, 3-string Okinawan instrument. Participants can start at any time.
Cooking Demonstration and Tasting Come and experience international cuisine: from rustic Okinawa dishes to easy-to-make multi-cultural recipes. Expand your palate and lead your taste buds on the journey of a life time!
Financial Management Air Force Aid Society Emergency financial assistance, interest free hardship loans or grants, and education grants are available. Money Management Workshop Learn how to select a financial institution and create and establish a working budget to manage savings, checking and reduce debt based on individual goals. Save, Invest, and TSP Learn and understand the differences between savings, investing, and your TSP. Is your money working for you?

Readiness Pre-Deployment/ Remote Tour All personnel leaving for deployment or remote tour must attend, spouses are encouraged to attend. (Please bring your checklist) Post-Deployment All personnel returning from deployment must attend, spouses are highly encouraged to attend. NEO Warden Training Prepares Wardens to execute the Okinawa Emergency Evacuation Plan Program, which ensure SOFA personnel are prepared for emergency evacuation.
Employment Resume / Interview Skills This workshop is designed to help job seekers learn resume writing and interview skills and explore job search strategies. Federal Job Search / Resume Writing This class will discuss how to search and apply for federal jobs and also provide tips for writing an effective federal resume.
Transition Assistance Program (TAP) Pre-Separation Counseling Attendance is mandatory for every military member before Transition GPS registration (Separating or Retiring). Learn about your benefits and entitlements. Transition GPS Workshop Learn about all aspects of a job search and your benefits after separation from the military. Military members must complete pre-separation counseling prior to registering for the workshop. Spouses are encouraged to attend.
Survivor Benefits Plan (SBP) The Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) briefing is required by law for all retiring service members and their spouses no later than 120 days prior to the approved retirement date. Our SBP Counselor will begin making contact 180 days prior to the approved retirement date to ensure all retiring service members are scheduled for this important briefing.
