IGNCA – NEW DELHIINDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL CENTER FOR THE ARTS
Jashn-e-Rekhta is a first of its kind Urdu festival to be held in India, which aims to
celebrate and explore the spirit of Urdu, its lyrical beauty and rich eloquence.
Transcending borders, the Jashn brings together distinguished poets, authors and
artists not only from across India, but also from Pakistan and the rest of the world, to
bring alive Urdu’s timeless splendour and its rich, linguistic heritage.
jashn
Jashn-e-Rekhta made its debut in March 2015 under the aegis of Rekhta Foundation. The Jashn is a
platform to showcase the world of Urdu through the eyes and experience of the masters.
It reaches out to both the Urdu speaking and the non-Urdu speaking audience.
For three festive days, some of Urdu’s finest masters converged to celebrate Urdu through live
performances, recitations, dastangoi, musical renditions, mushaira, dramas, panel discussions, film
screenings and interactive sessions. Adding to the conviviality, an outdoor fete was hosted which
included book exhibition, calligraphy art, ghazal sarai, nashist, nukkad-natak and more.
