Position Description (PD)(in a nutshell)

A summary of the scope, responsibilities, and requirements capturing the general nature of that body of work as well as the level of performance expected.

It focuses on the job required, not the person in it.

JB should eventually be used for all positions. UCOP is working to get all classifications uploaded in the system. For any that are not yet in JB, you can use CATS to create those PDs.

The PD Process• Open a Zendesk ticket to submit the PD (either attach a copy in Zendesk

or let us know what position you created and HR can go in JB and see it)• Submit your completely approved Position Management (PM) Form

(noting the Zendesk ticket number on Pg 1) and a Waiver, if appropriate• After approvals, the PM form will make it’s way to your HR Analyst, who

will make sure the position is correctly classified• The PM form is forwarded to HR Operations, who enters the shell of the

position into UCPath and provides us with a Position Control Number (PCN)

• Your HR Analyst will post the position using the PCN and the other components of the PD.

• Once the recruitment is complete, you will go back into JB, enter the PCN and employee name in the PD, and use the document as a discussion of their duties on the employee’s first day and obtain signatures
