A Career in Art I am a person that is filled with creativity and inspiration to make art. I love painting and decorating and sculpting. Art is special because literally anything can be made into art. It is all unique and different and beautiful in its own way. I think I would do well with a career in the arts because I could paint and sell my paintings on eBay or other websites. I could attend an art school and make many exciting friends along the way. If I were to be successful enough, I could open up my own art store and sell the things I have made. I could help people decorate their homes or plan a party because I am very good at that too. Having my own business would mean I don’t have an employer but I would still need to practice skills such as communication with customers, responsibility, organization, and other skills involved with running my own business.

Reflection This career reflects me and my interests because as I mentioned before, I am very creative. I notice small things that other people don’t notice and I can find beauty in almost everything. Being able to connect with nature and with myself is big for me when it comes to my art. For example; you might see a sunset, while I see something so incredible and beautiful that I can just sit down and start painting it. Sunsets only last a certain amount of time though. I have to capture the imagine in my mind and go from there if I don’t have time to finish before the sun goes down completely. I mostly love abstract art but I would like to get into painting landscapes with texture and oil paints.

Picture I painted last summer while sitting on the beach in Penticton, BC.

My Understanding of the Job Market

I know it will be a while before I even have the financial stability to own a business of my own, so for now I can get a job that will get me started with my life. I would like to work somewhere small, maybe an art store or a coffee shop to start off. I have worked in cafes before and it wasn’t terrible except I've noticed that customers can be incredibly disrespectful. This is something id like to steer clear of but I know that’s unreasonable since people everywhere are unpredictable. Having a job would help me practice my employability skills such as working with others and communicating with customers. Because I have work experience, I know what would be expected of me when I have a shift. It would be good to find a job that I like and I hope I can find somewhere to work where I get treated with the same respect I would show my fellow employees. As a student finding a summer job, I would search for a part time job that I can get to easily. I want my work environment to be a place I can get focused on completing tasks in.
