John 14:15-20 NIV

15”If you love me, you will obey what I command. 16And I will

ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be

with you forever– 17the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept

him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know

him, for he lives with you and will be in you. 18I will not leave

you as orphans; I will come to you. 19Before long, the world will

not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you

also will live. 20On that day you will realize that I am in my

Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

WHO IS THE

Holy Spirit?

Looking graphically at scripture canhelp us understand how God

defines and reveals the Holy Spirit.

met•a•phor (noun):

2. One thing conceived as representing another; a symbol

“Dear Lord, fill me with the

Jesus than yesterday.”

John 14:15-20 NIV

Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.”

The Holy Spirit is the presence of God,

the presence of Jesus in a unique and

spiritual way in our lives!

John 7: 37-39 “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to

me and drink. 38Whoever believes in me, as the

Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow

from within him.” 39By this he meant the Spirit, whom

those who believed in him were later to receive.

John 4:13-14 Jesus answered, “Everyone who

drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14but whoever

drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed,

the water I give him will become in him a spring of

water welling up to eternal life.”

The Holy Spirit is the drink that satisfies!

Are you feeling dry spiritually?

Are you feeling dry spiritually?

Are you feeling empty inside?

Are you feeling dry spiritually?

Are you feeling empty inside?

Are you thirsty for something more?

It is the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives…

It is the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives…

It is the filling of God’s spirit within you…

It is the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives…

It is the filling of God’s spirit within you…

It is us opening ourselves up to the spirit of the living God…

It is the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives…

It is the filling of God’s spirit within you…

It is us opening ourselves up to the spirit of the living God…

…that will leave us feeling satisfied!

Ephesians 5:18 Do not get drunk on wine, which

leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

What are we filling up on?

“God, dwell within me and let me

release control to the Holy Spirit that

I might be led and guided by it.”

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control.

The fruit of the spirit is what

comes out of the life of a person who is

filled with the Holy Spirit.

John 20: 21-22 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” 22And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

The Holy Spirit is the breath

of spiritual life

given to each Christian.

We can’t physically live without breathing.

We can’t physically live without breathing.

And we can’t spiritually live

without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

We can’t physically live without breathing.

And we can’t spiritually live

without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

But do we give the Holy Spirit

credit for our Spiritual life?

“Thank you Holy Spirit for helping

me to become who I am – for leading me

and guiding me today.”

Would we be more blessed

by and through the Holy Spirit

when we give God more credit

for the work of the

Holy Spirit in our lives?

John 3:6-8 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit

gives birth to spirit. 7You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ 8The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.

And now… a demonstration

The Holy Spirit is a wind

that blows in the believer that is an

unseen force that moves us.

“… guide, guard and direct us”

“… guide, guard and direct us

towards doing what’s right in your eyes…”

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is

love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,

faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control.

How?

The Holy Spirit is a wind that

works in the lives of Christians

to move us towards acts of goodness –

acts that have the fruit of the Spirit

written all over them.

Acts 2:3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire

that separated and came to rest on each of them.

Genesis 15:17 When the sun had set and darkness

had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch

appeared and passed between the pieces.

Hebrews 12:29 Therefore, since we are receiving a

kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and

so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29for our “God is a consuming fire.”

The Holy Spirit is the fire

of God’s passion within us.

It’s the power to enable and embolden

us to step out confidently and be bold for the Lord.

“Lord, fill our church with the

fire of the Holy Spirit”

Not speaking in tongues…

Just speaking, period!

The Holy Spirit is the fire

of God’s purity.

Hebrews 12:29 Therefore, since we are receiving a

kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and

so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, 29for our “God is a consuming fire.”

1 Corinthians 6:19 Hebrews 12:29 Do you not know that your body is a

temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have

received from God? You are not your own;
