Kulturhistorisk Museum in Bjørvika OSLO
KHMOslo -Bjørvika
The project includes the creation of the KHM new museum in the new area of Bjørvika, area under a high process of urbanization and densification with the Barcode concept as a peak. The museum is set as a counterpoint to this framework by providing a cultural and a free space for the city of Oslo in such an overwhelmed area. The design attempts to dilute the borders between the building and the park surrounding, unders-tanding the museum as an element of the park. The park, on the other hand, colonizes the roof of the museum creating an inhabitable topography, totally accessible. Understanding the binomial park - museum as a single organ, the building includes the old docks, reaching a total integration with the existing environment of the museum, try not to dominate but coexist. The museum is laid out along the new rail tunnel which burries the railways. The organization of the building responds to the differentiation between internal workspace and pu-blic zone. Moreover, the public space of the museum is materialized in a single level with an open space where visitors can walk freely without predeterminated paths in the space without any division in all the volume that has always direct connection to the outside. The light inside the museum is provided through a long facade facing the park, through the undulations of the roof, interior court-yards and skylights
