A Happily Ever After
for Kari-Anne and
Richard.
In March 2010 late one evening, while in a group chat with a mutual friend on MXIT, Richard and Kari-Anne 'met' for the first
time. After that they were pretty much glued to their phones and would chat every-day and every-night. After only 3 weeks
Richard planned to come down from Mozambique where he was living to meet Kari-Anne. As Fate would have it, after a
broken headlight, flat tyre, snapped cambelt and 2 nights of restless sleeping in his van on the way down, They finally get to
meet in person on 1 April 2010.
1 week after they have met he explains to Kari-Anne that fate has it planned they were meant to get married someday, which
became a definite reality when only 3 short weeks later he Proposed! They were engaged on 1 May 2010 and they began
saving or planning right away. The following year before they had saved near enough they found out that they were expecting
a bouncing bundle of joy, a year after that her son Tyler who was 5, broke his leg and in between being retrenched
simultaneously in the same week working different jobs last year Dec 2013 they kind of lost all hope in ever having a
wedding of their dreams.
So this year when Richard and Kari-Anne decided to
go back to the Lord and get their life back in order in
His strength, they decided that was it, they went for a
marriage course at church and on 01 April 2014 they
arranged for a family get together and decided
that 1 May 2014. Kari-Anne: “come sleet or snow we
were getting married. No wedding dress. No
wedding cake, just a good old fashioned South African
Braai, I do, I do The End.”
Kari-Anne’s sister, Jessie, being the maid of honour
would not hear of them having a wedding without any
trimmings and immediately sent out an email to all
family, friends, East Coast Radio and wedding related
shops to find sponsors or anyone who could help even in the slightest way. Needless to say in the end they were
very blessed from all corners of South Africa and from above.
Jessie bought Kari-Anne a wedding dress which was discounted to them by Spasobella in Durban. To add to the excitement
East coast radio picked them for the big favour, with the help of Damon Beards team they had a cake from Esmè's cakes,
2 days before the wedding, The Hair Design Studio in Pinetown got involved and Lindsay Van Wyk did Kari-Anne’s hair and
make-up, but she needed the final touch and that’s when Roxi Larkan Photography sponsored 8 hours and 300 edited pics.
Very Inviting also got involved and sponsored the order of service paddles, the guest book and also a candle in memory of
Richard's mom who lost her battle with Cancer in January of this year. Richard's sister, Sonja, blessed them with all the
tables and chairs and overlays and tie backs etc... as well as a spit-braai with 10 chickens to feed the hungry masses. All of
the aunts and cousins chipped in with eats and salads and decor and time. Kari-Anne’s cousin’s girlfriend even made
little coasters for them as thank you for coming gifts which were very special.
Kari-Anne: “We definitely know none of these events would have been possible without God, we went to
get married without a cent, and left having only purchased my ring, Richard’s cousin passed down an heirloom
to him. Our daughter was even dedicated at the ceremony. Such a blessed and wonderful occasion. We will
never forget, we owe so much too so many. But we got our happily ever after. Hard times definitely
strengthened our love, and serving God only confirmed our day was meant to be.”
