June 2016
Wow, where has the year gone? It is amazing to think that we are in the last month of a great school year here at HSS. The grade 3’s became part of the HSS family in September and now it’s hard to imagine it any other way. We have greatly enjoyed adding these students to our dynamic elementary culture. We are fortunate to have a grade 3-12 building that has ele-mentary, junior and senior high. We want to give a huge thanks to everyone who helped our school play, Cheaper by the Dozen, become such a huge success. Everyone worked hard and their efforts were reward-ed with a great production. Thanks to everyone, as well, who came and supported our bud-ding actors/actresses. It is the time of year when, we are continually reminded that we will once again say farewell to another graduating class. The class of 2016 have worked hard and we are excited to watch them go off and pursue their post high school learning opportunities. You have lived up to the high expectations you have set for yourselves and we know that you will continue this until the last diploma has been written. We want to pay special tribute to Mrs. Tricia McCambly. For 35 years she has been an ex-emplary teacher, coach, and an active community member. It is always amazing to hear of the thousands of students she has taught and how she even taught some of our current stu-dents’ grandparents. Mrs. McCambly is leaving behind a great legacy and she will be dearly missed (even though we are a little jealous of how much time she will spend in Mexico now). Tricia will forever remain a member of our Hugh Sutherland family. As we move toward the end of the year, we want to remind everyone to have a safe summer. In helping with this, we will be hosting the bike rodeo to help our grade 3 & 4 students be-come better prepared for the summer fun. As we reflect on our main goal, that every student will exceed their potential and achieve the essential outcomes to prepare them for the upcoming grades/levels of learning, we realize how much growth each student has achieved. In the 2016/2017 school year we will continue to strive to ensure that all students will be able to demonstrate application in the main areas of all curriculum and support every child to exceed their potential. Lastly, we wish to thank the students, families and community members for making Hugh Sutherland a wonderful place to learn and work. Have a great summer and we will see you on September 1. Sincerely, George, Dean, & Laura Lee

Unpaid School Fees are being forwarded to a Collection Agency
In order to provide the services and resources that we do at Hugh Sutherland School, we rely on the collection of School Board and Parent Council approved school fees. Without these fees, we cannot provide as many opportunities for the students at Hugh Sutherland School. Therefore, we are making one final appeal to request that all out-standing fees be paid immediately. Please be advised that as per our procedures all unpaid school fees that are still outstanding after June 15, 2015 will be sent to Chinook’s Edge School Division to be forwarded to a collection agency; unless other arrangements have been made by that time. Please give this your immediate attention if you have not yet submitted payment.
Also, please be aware that Cap & Gown ceremonies will not be available to grade 12 students who have outstanding fees after June 15, 2016.
Your support of Hugh Sutherland School is appreciated!
Thank you!

Another wildly successful HSS Drama production is in the books!
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year's production of "Cheaper by the Dozen" possible. From actors and tech crew, to bakers and dog-sitters, it was very much a team effort, and the HSS Drama Club very much appreciates all of the help and support we received.
Stay tuned for another wonderful drama production next year!

Reflecting on a great year in Chinook’s Edge A Message from the Superintendent With the end of this school year on the horizon, we can look back with pride on a great year of growth and accomplishment! The work underway in schools across our division is creating positive momentum for our students. Students across all grades have studied and honed their skills, and we are pleased that our high school completion rates continue to be well above provincial average. We have also seen a significant impact in the number of our graduates who are transitioning to post-secondary learning, and with this strong foun-dation they are in a greater position to continue achieving throughout their lives. Most significant to eve-ryone involved is the continued excellence across all safe and caring measures in Chinook’s Edge, which we strongly believe is the foundation for all other successes in our division. We are working to ensure all of our students have opportunities for success, from the moment they enter kindergarten to the time they graduate from high school. Thank you to our students, teachers and staff for your hard work and dedication this year, and to parents and community partners who are engaged leaders alongside us. I am proud to be part of a team that works so diligently to make a difference in the lives of the students we serve. Thank you for challenging, encouraging and believing in each of them, and in one another. Enjoy your summer! Kurt Sacher Superintendent of Schools
