RCIA If you are an adult, not baptized or baptized other
than the Catholic baptism, and would like to join the Catho-
lic Church, the RCIA is a venue to learn the Catholic faith
more and eventually get initiated or fully accepted in the
Catholic faith. The instruction/formation runs about a year
(10 months). If you are interested,
join us anytime. Normally, initiation
happens at Easter Vigil. Easter Vig-
il is on the eve of Easter Sunday.

The Sundays that follow after the Easter season are Sundays
of
Solemnities of the Lord Jesus Christ. There are many exciting
things that we have to look forward to in these celebrations. Like
jewelry, these celebrations can
be likened to special stones that decorate the whole jewelry. Each
has a very special character
and all of them make up a whole unity. One favorite that I always
look forward to is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood
of
Christ (Corpus Christi). In our celebration of the Solemnity, which
coincides fruit harvest and
gathering, we offer before the altar all the fruits of our labor.
Notice that in the celebration of the
Mass, during the Liturgy of the Eucharist, the priest prays to God
a prayer of grace: that all we
put before the altar of God may be acceptable to him and make them
holy.
Note that the offering we present before the altar of God is not
limited to the bread of wine. In
other cultures, they present before the altar from produce to their
equivalent and anything in
between. I find that tradition pretty close to the original church.
One time, a Hispanic family offered a basket of goodies. And then
another time, a Hispanic
group offered a basket of fruits. That thrilled me for it reminded
me the beauty of the church I
grew up in. That was precious. Actually, what I am saying here is
the richness of the church traditions. We celebrate these so-
lemnities for a reason: that we are a church who remember the
goodness of the Lord in Jesus
Christ. We do these remembrances by keeping our traditions or by
celebrating the solemnities
faithfully. Each of these celebrations is a solemnity. Meaning,
each is special, different from the usual.
How they are celebrated make them special to distinguish them from
the casual and the normal. I invite you to make these coming
Sundays special. I think, since we have been prevented to
cel-
ebrate the Mass normally, the best way that we can make the coming
Sundays special is to at-
tend the coming festivals with joyful expectation.–30-

solemnidades del Señor Jesu-
cristo. Hay muchas cosas emocionantes que tenemos que esperar en
estas celebraciones. Co-
mo una joya, estas celebraciones se pueden comparar con piedras
especiales que decoran toda
la joyería. Cada uno tiene un carácter muy especial y todos ellos
constituyen toda una unidad. Uno de los favoritos que siempre
espero es la solemnidad del Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de
Cristo (Corpus Christi). En nuestra celebración de la Solemnidad,
que coincide con la cosecha y
recolección de frutas, ofrecemos ante el altar todos los frutos de
nuestro trabajo. Observe que
en la celebración de la misa, durante la liturgia de la Eucaristía,
el sacerdote ora a Dios una
oración de gracia: que todo lo que ponemos ante el altar de Dios
sea aceptable para él y los
haga santos. Tenga en cuenta que la ofrenda que presentamos ante el
altar de Dios no se limita al pan de
vino. En otras culturas, presentan ante el altar desde productos
hasta su equivalente y cualquier
cosa en el medio. Encuentro esa tradición muy cerca de la iglesia
original. Una vez, una familia hispana ofreció una cesta de
golosinas. Y luego, en otra ocasión, un grupo
hispano ofreció una cesta de frutas. Eso me emocionó porque me
recordó la belleza de la iglesia
en la que crecí. Eso fue precioso. En realidad, lo que estoy
diciendo aquí es la riqueza de las tradiciones de la iglesia.
Celebramos
estas solemnidades por una razón: que somos una iglesia que
recuerda la bondad del Señor en
Jesucristo. Hacemos estos recuerdos manteniendo nuestras
tradiciones o celebrando las solem-
nidades fielmente. Cada una de estas celebraciones es una
solemnidad. Es decir, cada uno es especial, diferente
de lo habitual. La forma en que se celebran los hacen especiales
para distinguirlos de lo casual
y lo normal. Le invito a hacer que estos próximos domingos sean
especiales. Creo que, puesto que se nos ha
impedido celebrar la Misa normalmente, la mejor manera de hacer que
los próximos domingos
sean especiales es asistir a los próximos festivales con alegre
expectativa.-30-
