Measure twice, cut once! Not a bad philosophy to live by. When you have the proper tools, skilled hands, and an accurate blueprint, an experienced carpenter can turn a simple piece of lumber into a work-of-art that will last for generations.
If you’re like me, you want to bank with people who also take great pride in their attention to detail. You know, hard working people who are ready and willing to see things done right. You’ll want a bank that will put in the time needed to handle all of your financial needs and a bank that plans ahead for an ever-changing economy. That bank is the Boerne Banking Center.

The Ebensberger family and their funeral home business are intertwined with the history and growth of Boerne.
The C. O. Ebensberger building was built on Main in 1882 when he started his first business as an undertaker and
embalmer. The family lived upstairs on the second floor and the first floor was used for his funeral business. C. O.
was a cabinet-maker by trade, which at the time was basically making caskets.
(830) 249-2321
The funeral home remained in its original location until 1937 when Edmund Ebensberger bought the old Becker
Hotel on E. Rosewood, had it razed, and built the present funeral home at 111 Rosewood Ave.
Sonny and Yvonne Ebensberger were looking to retire and knew the timing was right when they met the Fisher family
in 2008. Even though they are enjoying retirement, they are always ready to step in and help when needed. Sonny and Yvonne know Dusty and Jo Lynn view the business
as a ministry and that they strive to treat each family they serve with integrity and compassion just as the
Ebensbergers have for the last 130 years.

In 1957 Randy’s parents, Edgar and Ruby Bergmann, had recently purchased the building where they would establish Bergmann Lumber Co. Inc. A lot has happened since Randy played with his friends in the sand. The store was originally housed at 231 S. Main Street, but was moved to its current location across the street in 1969. Now 55 years later, Randy
runs the store with two of his three grown daughters, Christina and Shanna. Bergmann Lumber Company survived the arrival of mega stores and over the years Randy’s children
who worked in the store learned how to run the business.

Serving as your Constable in Kendall County for 16 years.
Austrian-born Andreas Engel immigrated to Texas in 1885. In 1901 Engel bought five acres of land at the site of present Bergheim. A
cotton gin was erected and began operation on September 15, 1901. The post office opened, and Engel became postmaster in 1901. Cotton,
charcoal, cedar, and corn were the means of livelihood for Bergheim and the surrounding area. A new store was built from limestone quarried
nearby in 1903. In 1907 a house was built adjoining the store. In 1916 Rudolph and Alfred Engel succeeded their father in the business;
Rudolph managed the cotton gin, and Alfred handled the store and post office. Bergheim was said to operate the largest cedar yard in the state. Cedar posts were traded for groceries, and many cedar choppers were employed there. The sheep, goat, and cattle industries supported the community by 1950 and in 1990 were the economic backbone of the area. The store and post office have remained in the Engel family and is owned and operated by Andreas Engel’s great-grandson. Bergheim
General Store and Post Office received a state historical marker in 1983.

Kendall County’s first fair
It was before the twentieth century was ten years old that a few enterprising citizens decided that Kendall County should have a fair. The first three or four fairs were held in downtown Boerne. Most of the agricultural and needlepoint displays were in the theatre known as the Metropolitan Opera House standing on the present site of the Plaza (movie) Theatre at the corner of Main and E. San Antonio streets.
The plaza had a band stand and there concerts were held, both instrumental and vocal. Speeches were also a very important part of these early fairs. They were both political and non-political. The horse races were held in the back of the plaza just beyond the Kendall Inn.
Due to the success of these fairs, and the great interest manifested by the crowds that attended them, it was decided to continue with the fairs on a grander scale. In the year of 1913 an association was formed which was known as the Kendall County Fair Association. The Kendall County Fair has always been known as one of the best county fairs in the state of Texas.
