Zachary, the son of Steve and MarlaAdams, Princeton, is a student atCaldwell County High School. Adamscompeted in the Math discipline partof the Regional Academic All-Starteam. He was nominated by DavidShaffer.

“Zach is a great team player,” saidShaffer. “He is mature, hard-working,attentive, and possesses excellentleadership qualities.”

Adams plans to attend the US NavalAcademy in Annapolis, Maryland. Heintends to study ChemicalEngineering. His goal is to become achemical engineer and work inpharmaceutical or medicinemanufacturing.

Ian, the son of Michael Brown andSara Brown, Princeton, is a student atCaldwell County High School. Browncompeted in the Career & Technicaldiscipline part of the RegionalAcademic All-Star team. He wasnominated by Kim Farmer.

“Ian is a very academically soundstudent,” said Farmer. “He is a veryoutstanding young man, well known inthe community and well respected.”

Brown is currently undecided whichcollege he will attend. His ultimategoal is to become an engineer.

Aubree, the daughter of Shannon andChristina Burcham, Cadiz, is a studentat Trigg County High School.Burcham competed in the Sciencediscipline part of the RegionalAcademic All-Star team. She wasnominated by Kim Adams.

“Aubree embodies true leadershipqualities; intelligence and hard workthat will ensure her success incollege,” said Adams. “She possessesnot only a truly academic mind, but shedisplays many skills such asleadership, hard work, perseveranceand compassion that will make hervaluable asset to the community.”

Burcham plans to attend the Universityof Louisville to major in Nursing. Hergoal is to become a Family NursePractitioner.

Conner, the son of Eric and LeighAnne Collins, Hopkinsville, is a studentat Heritage Christian Academy.Collins competed in the SocialStudies/Economics discipline part ofthe Regional Academic All-Star team.He was nominated by Dennis Windsor.

“Conner’s academic performance hasbeen exemplary,” said Windsor. “Hedemonstrates excellence in his classesand his community.”

Collins plans to attend the Universityof Louisville J.B. Speed School ofEngineering. He will pursue amaster’s degree in either Chemical orCivil Engineering.

CONNER COLLINS

Lesley, the daughter of Joe and LindaGoodaker, Princeton, is a student atCaldwell County High School.Goodaker competed in the ForeignLanguage discipline part of theRegional Academic All-Star team.She was nominated by Ken Cummins.

“Lesley is a leader, organizer andmotivator,” said Cummins. “She is aself-starter and completes anyassignment tough or easy all the waythrough. Lesley relates well to otherstudents and teachers.”

Goodaker plans to attend Austin PeayState University in the fall. She plansto major in Criminal Justice with aconcentration in Homeland Security,with a minor in Spanish as a foreignlanguage. Her ultimate goal is topursue a career as a Crisis Negotiator.

LESLEY GOODAKER

Andrea, the daughter of Andrew andMelissa Gray, Hopkinsville, is a studentat Christian County High School. Graycompeted in the Arts discipline part ofthe Regional Academic All- Star team.She was nominated by James Gregory.

“Andrea demonstrates a high level ofcharacter and perseverance at ChristianCounty High School,” Gregory said.“She is a very dependable and reliablestudent.”

Gray is undecided which college she willattend. However, she plans to attendcollege to pursue a major in Music and aminor in Special Education. Her goal isto obtain a Music Therapy degree so thatshe may incorporate music into teachinglife lessons to children who have beendiagnosed with a disability.

ANDREA GRAY

Elizabeth, the daughter of Connieand John Johnson, Gracey, is astudent at Trigg County High School.Johnson competed in the Journalismdiscipline part of the RegionalAcademic All-Star team. She wasnominated by Christy Ethridge.

“Elizabeth is a well-rounded studentwho is also very involved innumerous extra-curricular activities,”said Ethridge. “She is a very strongstudent in all areas.”

Gordon, the son of Dr. Mitchell andSally Kaye, Hopkinsville, is a studentat University Heights Academy. Kayecompeted in the English discipline partof the Regional Academic All-Starteam. He was nominated by FayeHendricks.

“Gordon loves to challenge himself, isnaturally curious, and highlymotivated,” said Hendricks. “He isintrinsically motivated, very bright andhas a great work ethic. He is punctualand conscientious in all his efforts.”

Although Kaye is undecided on whichcollege he will attend, he plans tomajor in either BiomedicalEngineering or Biochemistry with aminor in political science. His ultimategoal is to have a career as a surgeon.

Cynthia Atkins serves as theDirector of Library Servicesat Hopkinsville CommunityCollege. She holds degreesfrom HopkinsvilleCommunity College, theUniversity of Kentucky,George Peabody College,and Western KentuckyUniversity. She is married toMike Atkins, a teacher andpart-time pastor.

Shepreviously taught for 19 yearsin the Christian County PublicSchools. Beverly is married toKerry and has three children,Riley, Allie, and Cooper.

Beth Meade currently is a SimulationLab Coordinator at HopkinsvilleCommunity College. She graduated in1988 with a Bachelor of Science inNursing from the University ofTennessee, Knoxville. I served in theUnited States Air Force for the next eightyears having had the opportunity toexperience many kinds of nursing toinclude medical-surgical, intensive care,and labor and delivery. Upon completionof my military service, my husband and Imoved our family to Hopkinsville,Kentucky. For the past five years, I haveworked in different roles at HopkinsvilleCommunity College as a NursingInstructor, a Lab Instructional Specialist,and most recently, a Simulation LabCoordinator. I have the best job ever asI am able to closely interact with all ofour nursing students! I also have theadded benefit of being able to attendgraduate school part-time while I workfull-time.BETH MEADE

Melony Shemberger is theassistant director ofcommunication in the publicrelations and marketing office atAustin Peay State University inClarksville, Tenn. She handlesexternal and internalcommunication for the University,writes press releases, editspublications, coordinates publicityefforts and other tasks designedto advance APSU in recruitment,retention and giving. She servesas president of the University’sStaff Senate and assists onnumerous committees throughoutcampus, including The Peay Readannual reading effort and theHomecoming Scholarship 5K.

Geneva Taylor became a partof the Western KentuckyUniversity family in 2007.Since coming to WKU, shehas worked in the Office ofAdmissions with theAcademic TransitionsProgram, helping studentstransition from high schoolinto their first semester atWKU. Geneva was alsoinstrumental in creating theonline transfer orientation andATP On the Road programs.

Janet Velazquez has been anAdmissions Counselor at AustinPeay State University for overfive years. Her primary focusesat APSU are Kentucky countiesand non-traditional students.She has held previous positionsin private, state and federalagencies as a CareerCounselor, Parent Educator,Alcohol & Drug PreventionSpecialist, as well as othersocial service fields. A graduateof APSU, Velazquez is marriedto an active duty US Armyservice member and they havetwo beautiful daughters.

Shegraduated from ChristianCounty High School in 1985and went on to attend MurrayState University to pursue adegree in Communication.She graduated from MurrayState University in 1989 withher Bachelor's Degree inRadio-TV Broadcasting and in1993 with her Master'sDegree in the field ofO r g a n i z a t i o n a lCommunication.
