Handel: Sinfonia from Act I of Giulio Cesare Corelli: Concert Grosso, Op. 6, No. 8 in G minor, Christmas Concerto J.C. Bach: Sinfonia Concertante Haydn: Symphony No. 22 in E-flat major, The Philosopher Haydn: Sinfonia Concertante in B-flat major
Join us for an evening of musical exploration into the genre of classical music as it has transformed and evolved over time, curated by KWS bassoonist Michael Macaulay. A genre is a living thing and, once in a while, a radical development emerges that both changes the future of music and pays homage to the work of generations past. Join the KWS and featured Orchestra soloists to trace the evolution of the classical symphony; a story told through the music of the composers who laid its foundation, as well as those who refined it.

Violet’s Story“When Don served as President of the Symphony Association and I was Chair of the Women’s Committee, at the same time, our three teenaged children complained that dinner conversations were always about the Symphony. They were right!
At that time the Symphony was celebrating 25 years, Raffi Armenian was appointed Music Director in 1971, and the orchestra went from amateur to professional status with the hiring of many gifted musicians, some of whom are still bringing audiences pleasure. These were exciting years.
I’m happy to have been a part of the development of the KW Symphony for more than 50 years.
My life and the lives of those in this community have been enhanced because of the live performances that the KWS brings to us.”
— W. Violet Sykes
The Benefits of a GiftViolet is still an active member of the KWS family, enjoying a range of concerts. She also knows that a gift to the KWS supports many KWS community programs:
• Musicians performing for Alzheimers patients, for kids needing special care, and in hospital settings through the new Health & Wellness Program
• Subsidized music lessons and Youth Orchestra Program entry for low income families
• Education programs that reach 14,000 elementary students each year
• Concerts in public spaces and in workplaces free of charge
• The nationally renowned Youth Orchestra Program
The KWS makes a huge impact, both in the concert hall and beyond. For more information on the benefits of supporting KWS programs visit kwsymphony.ca/support or call 519-745-4711 x275. Thank you!
