Denison Dam and Lake Texoma spans the border of Texas and Oklahoma. The reservoir lies within the counties of Bryan, Marshall, Johnson and Love in Oklahoma, Cooke and Grayson counties in Texas.Authorized for construction by the Flood Control Actof 1938, for flood control and the generation of hydroelectric power, the dam, spillway and outlet works construction were started in August 1939 andcompleted in February 1944. When completed,Denison Dam was America’s largest rolled, earth-filled dam. The first hydroelectric turbine placed in operation was in March 1945 and the second unit in September 1949.Texoma is the largest lake in capacity in the Tulsa District and 12th largest lake in the United States.

LocationRECREATION

CampingThe Corps operates 10 Class A campgrounds on Lake Texoma. Park attendants oversee fee collection during the peak season in most parks. Self-deposit honor vaults are available for use during the off-season and in campgrounds withoutpark attendants. Entrance gates open at 6 a.m. and lock at 10 p.m. Camping in undesignated areas is prohibited.

Rules & RegulationsCopies of Title 36 Rules and Regulations governingthe public use on Corps of Engineers Projects areavailable upon request. Occupancy: The maximum number of people persite is 15. Only one RV is allowed per site. The number of tents is limited by the space available at each camp site and the size of tents. Length of stay: No camping unit will be allowedto stay longer than 14 consecutive days in any one park without written permission. Extensions will notbe granted through any summer holiday weekend. Vehicles: All vehicles must be street legal with tags,stay on established roads, and be operated by a licensed driver.

Animals: All pets must be restrained by a leash lessthan six feet in length. Animals are prohibited in restrooms and at designated swim beaches.

Fireworks: Possessing or exploding fireworks ongovernment property is prohibited.

Noise: Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. - 6 a.m. Unreasonable or excessive noise/music at any timeis prohibited.

Garbage: Dumpsters are consolidated in a centrallocation within each campground. Take all campinggenerated refuse to the dumpsters. Bagged trash will not be collected at the campsites. Fire rings and grills are not to be used as trash bins.

Registration: All campers and their visitors must check in with the gate attendant at the park office. Reservations: Check-In by 6 p.m. Check-Out by 4 p.m.

Day UseThe Corps offers several boat ramps, 2 designatedswim beaches, and many picnic sites. Fees for useof the facilities should be paid to the attendant whenon duty or by using the self-deposit honor vault when the park attendant is absent.An annual Day Use Pass is available for purchase which permits the vehicle and accompaning passengers to use all boat launching ramps and swimming beaches at all Corps-operated recreation areas without further charges. Hunting and FishingPublic hunting lands are managed by the Corps ofEngineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, andthe Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Huntingand fishing are regulated by State and Federal laws,and state hunting and fishing licenses are required.*Corps hunting maps are available at www.swt.usace.army.mil

Two state parks located on the lake offer a variety of recreation opportunities, such as, camping, swimming, hiking, cabin rental, marina services, an ATV trail area, etc. Lake Texoma State Park is operated by the State of Oklahoma and Eisenhower State Park is operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Find their contact numbers on the front of this map.

Twenty-one commercial concessions provide services to the public. Services include boat sliprentals, fuel, food items, camping, cabins, etc. The contact numbers for the concessionaires are found on the front of this map.

Swimming Safety: No lifeguards provided. Swim at your own risk. Learn how to swim. Swim at designated beach areas. Never swim alone. Swim with a buddy. Watch children closely. When storms approach...get out of the water and stay out. Don’t overestimate your swimming ability as water distances are deceiving.

Boating Safety: Take a boating safety course. Obey all state and federal boating regulations. Head for shore if bad weather threatens. Be watchful for obstructions in the water. Take extra care in shallow water and along the shoreline. There is no entry allowed beyond the buoy lines above and below Denison Dam.

It’s the LAW..Children under 13 years of age MUST WEAR an approved Personal Floatation Device (PFD) wheneverunderway on a vessel less than 26 feet in length.
