John Chappie, this resort'slong - distance running ace,competed Thursday in the an-nual Boston marathon over the26-mile, 385-yard course.

In last year's event, thefirst time he had finished thegruelling grind, Chappie placed43rd in a starting field of 134.

He has been training hardfor this year's event, and be-fore leaving on Monday saidhe hoped to again finish therace, and "improve my posi-tion to at least *35th."

In November, 1344 she was mar-ried to Mr. Smith, who survives,along with a 2-year-old son, Hu-bert Raymond. Other survivors in-clude five brothers, Edward, Jerryand Leonard Borden, all of LakePlacid, Bills Boxdeji, Scbenectady,and Max Borden, Niagara Fallsand two sisters, Mrs. Beulah Smith,and Miss Mary Borden, both ofLake Placid.
