“Passion and Sorrow” is a group exhibition that will feature 9 artists from different countries: Abdul Qader Al Rais and Najat Makki from UAE, Edward Shahda, Ismail Al Rifai, Mustafa Ali, Basem Al Sayer and Loai Salahaldeen from Syria, Jamal Abulrahim from Bahrain and Wael Al Murib from Iraq. Between the passion for Art and the sorrow that is prevailing our life nowadays, there is always room for celebration. The passionate artists present their latest artworks and share with us their passion for life. After all, art is a channel for a better understanding of the human existence. About the gallery

Founded in 2015, Lamiatos Gallery is an international art gallery and a member of MAG Group. Its main mission is to promote art as a universal language that can diminish the differences between nations and foster a cultural mutual language as well as to provide art advisory for collectors.The gallery is dedicated to show artworks from young and upcoming artists to well-known and established artists in a large selection of artworks. Lamiatos Gallery is located at the heart of Dubai in DIFC (Dubai International Financial Centre) where throughout the year, solo and group exhibitions are scheduled to promote our artists and to keep up with the new trends of Fine Art.

After all, art is a channel for better understanding to human existence.

Abdul Qader Al Rais Born 1951, UAEAbdul Qader Al Rais is one of the most important and highly celebrated Emirati artists. His colorful and vibrant brushstrokes are clearly recognizable among all; he is the first artist in UAE with a painting on a postage stamp.His artistic theme revolves around old threads heritage, shipbuilding, and por-traits, In addition to the landscapes, he focuses on doors and landscape beyond them. His style relied on changes in paint handling and stylistic staccato make for ex-treme variations, also his artworks ranges from realism to abstract with calligraphy. He was awarded many distinguished and valuable prizes on local and international level.

Dr Najat Makki , Emirati artist and one of the leading fine artists in the UAE and GCC region. Graduated from fine art faculty / Cairo University in 1982, and received a Ph.D. in metal coins from Cairo University 2001. She is mainly inspired by desert and sea. Women are always present in her artworks; she mixes the colors and different media to reflect the energy of life and nature.The artist held many solo and collective exhibitions, and had awarded severalprizes from UAE and other Arab countries.

Jamal Abdulrahim Born 1965A well-established Bahraini artist and a member of the Bahrain Arts Society. Jamal’s artistic theme is inspired by religion, philosophy , culture, civilization.He chooses an intense light to immerse his paintings in, with the aim of clearly depicting every facet of his subjects’ features. The artist also uses beyond traditional forms in his paintings, and sculptures of stone and bronze.From 1999 he held many Solo and group exhibitions in the Middle East, Europe and East Asia; His awards include the Second Prize of the Fourth Biennial of Sharjah, 1999; Jury Prize in the Third Egyptian International Print Triennial.

Mustafa Ali, Born in 1956One of the Syrian prominent sculptors, graduated from fine art faculty in Damascus University 1979, and continue his higher studies in Italy .His elegant art works from bronze and wood sculptures are widely collected. His art works reveal the consciousness and fragility of mankind many of them in the museum for contemporary art in Damascus, the Sharjah Museum of Art and the Arab World Institute in Paris, also many of his sculptures in public places , such as “The Gate of Syria,” which is on display in the Mediterranean Olympiad in Pari, Italy, and “The Tower of Memory,” which stands in the Damascus International Fairground.

Edward Shahda born in 1952.A prominent Syrian artist, Edward began his creative journey in 1968 at the Suheil Ahdab Center in Hama, joined the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus (1971-1976). He then resided at the Anatoli Klankov Atelier in Russia (1991-1992).As early as 1980 start to display his art works through solo and group exhibitions in prestigious international halls and galleries in: Syria, Russia, Lebanon, Egypt, Dubai, Turkey, USA, Canada, France, Switzerland , China and The Institute of The Arab World exhibition in Paris in 2008 His colors are contrasting and dynamic and often incorporates symbolism and mythology.

Ismail Al Rifai Born in 1967, Syrian artist Using an expressive and unique style, to depict the story of the human being in all his emotional manifestations and spiritual abundance – in his bitterness and defeats, existential struggle, love and war, desolate isolation and noise. Ismail Al Rifai is a graduate of Fine Arts from the University of Damascus in 1991. He is an accomplished artist and a published writer and poet. Al Rifai has exhibited widely in Syria, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Egypt, Iran, Tunisia and Morroco. A number of Al Rifai’s works have been sold at auctions, including Christie’s Dubai, 2012. Al Rifai has won a number of artistic and literary awards such as the Dubai Culture Award 2015.

Basem Al SayerBorn in 1961Syrian Artist, graduated from fine art faculty University of Damascus, he inspired by the tradition and heritage of the Euphrates River and the ancient inscriptions from old Mesopotamian civilizations Participated in a many of art projects with (Art and hip-US company)He works as a lecturer of sculpture material at the School of substance Arts in Sharjah, and Work in the field of decoration , and taught the material Applied ArtsCo-organized a lot of fairs and festivals in favor of the Culture and Information Department, Oversaw the workshop recycles waste and stuff with the Ministry of Education.

Loai Salahaldin Syrian fine artist, graduated from fine art faculty , Damascus University 1997 , and later finished higher studies diploma /university of Damascus in 1999. Through his colorful and symbolic paintings, he tries to express his thoughts and emotions to raise the awareness about the fears and hopes of the human being. Loai ‘s paintings is a dream of life and Listening to the life, he noted that his nice favorite colors are gray and turquoise . The artist participated in many collective and solo exhibitions in Damascus, Dubai and Sharjah in UAE .

Wael Al Murib Born 1947,Iraqi artist graduated from university of Baghdad with Bachelor of Economy 1970, He studied art in Beirut for two years then he returned to Baghdad to work in the Ministry of Culture, later became the director of the National Museum of Modern Art.Al Murib mixes figuration and abstraction in a vibrant and fresh style, always his paintings revolve around certain ideals such as the freedom and women.Al Murib held many collective and solo exhibitions in (Beirut, Athens, Baghdad, Jordan and Abu Dhabi), nowadays Al Murib is working on a solo exhibition in Toronto/Canada.He wrote many articles in the criticism of fine Art and poetry.
