It is reported that the number of patients in their 30s and 40s queuing to receive traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has been on the rise in recent years.1 However, elderly citizens and children still take up a lion's share of the market.2 The rise in the number of young people seeking TCM is due to the improved awareness of health issues today and the preference for non‐drug treatments.
Chinese generally believe that this traditional kind of treatment is more effective during summer because this is when “yangqi”(阳气
)-the warm element in “the yin‐yang balance”(阴阳平衡)-is at its highest and hence allows the body to be more responsive to treatment.3 For a critical health problem such as neck or waist pains, results usually appear after just one or two treatments.
