The patterns for these advanced exercises for ligados are the same as those

for the ligado exercises in Levels 3 and 4 of Maestro Workshop.

The exercises are written on the 5th fret and the patterns should be played on at

least the 1st, 5th and 9th frets, making a longer, more comprehensive exercise,

covering the different parts of the fingerboard.

Exercise 6 introduces trills played with alternating fingers.

Long trills are easier to sustain if they are played with alternating fingers, and

the technique is also a useful alternative when playing shorter trills.

Although, in the repertoire, the 1 – 2/3 trill is the most common, the finger

combinations given here make an excellent workout.

One of the virtues of these ligado exercises is their adaptability.

Below are two variants:

The finger pairings (bracketed) remain the same as in the previous exercises, but they are now played

continuously on the same string.

They are shown below in triplets, but can also be played with trills, mordents etc.

or with a particular ornament from a piece.
