Principal’s Report
Annual School Report for 2016
It is with great pleasure that I present the Annual School Report for
2016. This report gives information about progress on our goals and
strategic directions. It also highlights the academic, sporting,
technology and arts achievements of our students and staff. I
encourage you to read the report and join with us in celebrating the
successes of our school.
The Annual School Report can be found on the school website
http://www.lindfield-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/ and the screenshot below
directs you to the relevant link.
Soldier On – Thank You
Thank you for supporting the ‘Soldier On’ fundraiser to provide care
to our wounded service men and women. We raised $289.45 to give
them access to suitable care. The resources provided for schools by
this organisation allowed teachers to show students some videos of
interviews with modern day veterans to increase their level of
understanding.
We Spoilt Our Mothers! Happy Mother’s Day!
On Friday, our mothers shared breakfast with their children and the smiles on everybody’s faces told the
story! I always enjoy watching the children looking over the gifts at the stalls as they decide what
treasure to buy for their precious mum. There were so many beautiful choices and I thank the volunteers
who purchased and provided these gifts for your efforts. Many thanks to the team led by Tina and
Natalie for providing the tasty breakfast and elegant table settings. A good time was had by all! I hope
that all our mothers were spoilt on Sunday!
More photos can be found on our school website.
‘Meet the Teacher’
Both Mr Gardiner and Miss Sweeney appreciated the opportunity to meet the parents at the special
‘Meet the Teacher’ events for 2T and 3E. Being new to these classes in Term 2, it gave them a forum to
address the parents and carers and share their plans for the rest of the year for 2T and for the next two
terms for 3E. Thank you for coming.

Deputy Principals’ Report
Years 3 – 6 Public Speaking Competition
Teachers are very much looking forward to hearing the speeches currently being written by their students. Yesterday a note with guidelines and the topics was sent home. Students are encouraged to think about the Matter, Method and Manner when preparing their speeches:
Matter - well-structured and interesting content, that is unique and interesting for the audience. Speakers should refer to palm cards and not just read the content.
Manner - good use of voice (articulation, volume, pause, pace), good posture, gestures and eye contact. The speaker’s voice should be relaxed without being exaggerated. Costumes or props are not permitted.
Method - well-practised in presenting (rehearsed). Speeches need to have a clear introduction, middle and conclusion. Do not introduce yourself or thank your audience. Good introductions and conclusions are memorable, effective and original. Thank you to Mr Katrak, Mrs Batistich and Mr Gortley who delivered impromptu speeches at assembly yesterday. Their topics ‘Fish make great pets’, ‘Computers are better than television’ and ‘Spiders’, made for some very entertaining speeches!
Basketball – Our New Rec Sport
Many students from Years 3 – 6 are enjoying basketball which was an addition to our Recreational Sport program this term. The North Shore Basketball League (NSBL) coaches aim to increase overall basketball skills, hand-eye coordination, game sense and physical fitness and improve life-long skills including communication, teamwork and spatial awareness. Students are enthusiastically taking part in the program.

New Library Green Screen!
If you have entered our library foyer in the last week, you may have noticed our new bright green wall.
This space has been especially created to help support our primary students who are learning how to
use iPad apps that allow special effects using a green screen to create dynamic video assignments.
Using a green screen as a backdrop to a video allows the students to superimpose the actors onto any
kind of background - as long as they are not wearing green themselves! It is commonly used for TV
weather reports.
We look forward to seeing what our talented students create using this new learning space!
Happy reading and recording!

Medical Alert Updates 2017
Please ensure all the children with anaphylaxis and other medical conditions, hand in their updated action plans. Kindly ask your doctors to sign, stamp and date them. The school needs to receive a coloured copy of the action plan for our health records. All students with a known medical condition must provide updated health plans for 2017. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Anaphylaxis at Lindfield Public School
At Lindfield Public School in 2017, we have a small number of children with a potentially life threatening allergic reaction. They are found across our school from Kindergarten to Year 6. How can parents help these children?
If possible, choose alternative sandwich spreads to peanut butter and Nutella. If you have no alternative, inform your child that these foods can trigger an anaphylactic reaction.
Reinforce the school’s NO FOOD SHARING message.

Canteen
FLEXISCHOOLS ONLY ON FRIDAYS (NO PAPER BAG ORDERS)
In Term 4 of last year, we introduced Flexischools to the Canteen. We hope that by using the Flexischools online order system we have provided an ordering and payment system that is more convenient and efficient for our school community. By paying online, there is no fumbling around for coins in the morning or sending kids to school with excess cash. Online orders are faster and more accurate, giving parents peace of mind that their child will have the lunch that has been ordered.
So from this Friday, 12 May the LPS canteen will only accept Flexischool online orders on Fridays. You will still be able to order via the paper bag method from Monday to Thursday, however, only online orders will be accepted on Fridays. If you are new to Flexischools, please see the Canteen page on the P&C website here for FAQs and how to register. It is very simple and convenient to use.
Year 3-6 students will still be able to purchase items over the counter at recess and lunch with cash.
If you have any concerns please feel free to come into the Canteen so we can help.
Many thanks for your support.

Chess
Rumours abound on the Day of the Mother that G R R R R has released a new installment of the Game of (Chess) Thrones and may be prevailed upon for The Signing of The Book. Three teams from House Lindfield are sent north of the Mall to ask Shaggydog for an explanation...... Round 2 of the NSW JCL was held last Friday and all seven of our teams were in action. Three of our teams traveled to St Bernard's Berowra Heights using detailed instructions, GPS and fast getaway cars. Our thanks to the parents driving - Anna, Emily's grandfather and P&C Prez Tina who put in a long LPS day by doing Chess after first doing Mother's Day Breakfast and Canteen. Our thanks also to the Home parents who helped setup, guard and arrange the food and hosted the visiting teams. Lindfield A played St Ives A for a 4-0 win (aggregate 8-0); Lindfield B played Turramurra North A for a 2-2 draw (4-4); Lindfield C played St Bernard's Berowra Heights A for a 1-3 loss (1-3); Lindfield D played St Bernard's Berowra Heights C for a 3.5-0.5 win (5.5-2.5); Lindfield E played St Bernard's Berowra Heights B for a 4-0 win (7-1); Lindfield F played Wahroonga C for a 3.5-0.5 win (7.5-0.5); Lindfield G played Knox E for a 4-0 win (7-1.) This Friday sees four of our teams Away with Lindfield A visiting Wahroonga A, Lindfield B taking on newcomers St Ives North A, Lindfield F playing Newington C in a double header (to save time and another trip) and Lindfield G visits Sydney Grammar E. Our Home games are all against St Ives North teams - Lindfield C v St Ives North D, Lindfield D v St Ives North F and Lindfield E v St Ives North E. Good luck teams!
