Starting at Home … The Cajuns started the season with a pair of home games for the first time since 1989 and are 2-0 for the first time since 1990. The last time the Cajuns were 3-0 was 1988. Coach Bustle had started 0-2 in six of his first seven seasons. Biggest Crowds Ever… The Cajuns hosted 41,357 for their home-opener vs. Southern (the largest in Cajun Field and Sun Belt history) and had 16,431 vs. K-State to mark the largest two-game total in Cajun Field history (57,788). Three of the six largest crowds ever at Cajun Field have come since 2006. Masson Keeps Rolling… In his second start, Chris Masson put together a pair of two-minute drives – one at the end of each half, to help UL top Big XII-member Kansas State. His first drive started with 2:13 remaining in the first half, as he took UL 73 yards in 12 plays. He went 5-of-7 for 55 yards and threw a TD pass with five seconds left in the second quarter. After K-State grabbed a 15-14 lead, he took charge once again with 3:50 left in the game. Masson directed a 10-play, 37-yard drive to set-up the game-winning FG. He is 2-0 in his career as a starter and has a passing efficiency this season of 142.0. Falgout Still Top TD Passer… Wide receiver Richie Falgout has as many career touchdown passes (4) as any of the Cajuns top three quarterbacks (Masson – 4, McGuire – 2, Gautier – 0)…Falgout’s career passing line is 4-of-4 for 110 yards and four touchdowns. His career passing efficiency stands at 661.00. Solid Defense… The Cajuns defense has allowed less than 20 points in each of the first two games. It is the first time since the 2006 season that the Cajuns have surrendered less than 20 points in back-to-back games. UL kept opponents under 20 points five times that season, including three straight games. Clutch Kicking… Tyler Albrecht’s first career field goal attempt will be talked about for a long time. His 48-yard game-winning blast with 32 seconds left carried the Cajuns to a 17-15 win over Big XII-member Kansas State. By comparison, his predecessor Drew Edmiston missed his first career kick, a 35-yard attempt at LSU. Sean Comiskey preceded Edmiston and, although Comiskey made his first career attempt (from 31 yards), he missed his next kick from 47 yards.

Head Coach Rickey Bustle…

Louisiana head coach Rickey Bustle has guided the Cajuns for seven seasons and enters his eighth year in 2009. Louisiana has now won six games and been bowl-eligible in three of the last four seasons. The last time that happened at UL was 1993-95, when the Cajuns won at least six games for three consecutive seasons. Coach Bustle won 23 games in his first five seasons with the Cajuns from 2002-06, including 11 of the last 17 games. UL won only nine games in the five seasons prior to Bustle’s arrival from 1997-2001. Bustle saw his winning percentage increase each of the first four seasons since taking the job in 2002, but regressed to .500 in 2006. His 6-6 record in 2006 was only deemed a regression because of the high standards and raised levels of expectations by the Cajuns and their fans. In fact, Bustle’s 12 wins from 2005-06 were the most in a two-year period since 1994-95. Louisiana went 4-1 at home in 2008, marking the sixth season under Bustle that the

Cajuns have been .500 or better at home. Bustle boasts a 22-18 (.550) career record at Cajun Field. By comparison, UL was 6-19 (.240) at home from 1997-01. In addition to raised expectations, Bustle has brought professionalism and discipline to the program. From 2002-08, the Cajuns 525 penalties are the fewest in the Sun Belt Conference and UL boasts the fewest penalties per game over that span. The Cajuns went 6-5 (.546) in 2005 to mark UL’s first winning record since 1995. Along with a winning season in 2005 came a share of the Sun Belt Conference championship thanks to five straight wins to end the season. After starting 1-5 (0-2), Louisiana roared back into the SBC race with a come-from-behind road win at Middle Tennessee. From there came a homecoming win over Troy in overtime and a second comeback road win, this time at North Texas. A Senior Day victory over Florida International set-up the season finale at Louisiana-Monroe. The Cajuns rocked the Indians 54-21, claiming the first school title since the 1994 Big West crown. Bustle was given a two-year contract extension following the 2005 campaign, which lengthens his contract through 2010. QUICK NOTES ABOUT COACH BUSTLE Coach Bustle won 23 games in his first five seasons with the Cajuns from 2002-06, including 11 of the last 17 games. UL won only nine games in the five seasons prior to Bustle’s arrival from 1997-2001.

At the half under Coach Bustle- At Home: Leading (17-2), Trailing (3-14), Tied (2-2) On Road: Leading (8-2), Trailing (4-29), Tied (0-1)

When trailing at the half under Bustle, the Cajuns have come back to win seven games – 10/18/08 vs. Arkansas State (trailed 10-7), 11/10/07 at Middle Tennessee (trailed 21-14), 11/18/06 at Florida Int’l (trailed 7-3), 10/7/06 at Houston (trailed 21-10), 10/22/05 at MT (trailed 10-7), 9/17/05 vs. Northwestern St. (trailed 21-20) and 11/2/02 vs. Idaho (trailed 21-17). In the comeback road victories at UH & both games at MT, the Cajuns not only trailed at the half, but at the end of the first and third quarters, as well.

When leading at the half under Bustle, the Cajuns have lost four times – on 9/8/07 vs. Ohio (led 20-10), on 10/13/05 at Arkansas State (led 16-7), on 10/6/05 vs. Florida Atlantic (led 10-7) and on 10/9/04 at New Mexico State (led 21-13).

UL is 15-10 under coach Bustle one week after a victory. Conversely, UL is 15-29 one week after a loss. Note: The Cajuns are 2-3 two weeks after a win and 0-2 two weeks after a loss when there is an open date (two full weeks) in between games. (The results of season openers are not reflected)

Coach Bustle is 1-7 in coach’s challenges, while opponents are 1-7 against the Cajuns in challenges. UL had an official’s video review at #24 Illinois overturn a call on the field to give the Cajuns a rushing touchdown. UL had four fumble recoveries overturned by a video review (at Troy 2006, vs. FAU 2007, at North Texas & at Troy 2008). Bustle won his first challenge on Oct. 13, 2007 at Arkansas State. The ruling on the field of an Indians reception was overturned.

Louisiana’s non-conference road victory at Houston in 2006 was Rickey Bustle’s second non-conference road win (2-20) and was the second non-conference road win for UL since the Sun Belt started football in 2001.

Quarterback• The team entered the season needing to fill the void left by Michael Desormeaux, a two-year starter and 2008 Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Year.

• Sophomore Chris Masson won the job and was named the starter for the opener with Southern. Masson took snaps under center three times in 2008 (at NT, FAU and Troy) going 6-of-9 for 72 yards and one touchdown.

• Masson had a terrific debut as a starter vs. Southern. The Miami native completed 18-of-24 passes (75%) for 283 yards and two scores. His 283 passing yards rank as the 24th most in a single game in school history. Masson recorded an efficiency rating of 201.55, while adding five carries for 36 yards and a score.

• Masson directed a pair of two-minute drills that led to scores each time vs. Kansas State. He was 5-for-7 for 55 yards on the final drive of the first half which led to a TD and 14-2 lead. In the fourth quarter, he completed three straight passes to get UL past midfield and into field goal range for the winning kick.

• Sophomore Brad McGuire started vs. Arkansas State in 2008 and led the team to victory when Desormeaux was sidelined with an injury.

• McGuire entered the Southern game in the final series. He did not attempt a pass and gained 21 yards on a rush around the left end on the game’s final play.

Running Back• For the past four seasons, the Cajuns knew what they were getting at running back. Tyrell Fenroy, the 2008 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, became just the seventh player in NCAA history with four 1,000-yard rushing seasons. He ended his career as the school, conference and State of Louisiana career rushing champion with 4,646 yards.

• The burden to follow Fenroy falls on a group of untested players. Seniors Undrea Sails and Matt Dupre, along with sophomore Julian Shankle and redshirt freshmen Draylon Booker and Yobes Walker.

• The group turned in an efficient effort against Southern. The running backs carried the ball 32 times and rushed for 146 yards (4.6 ypc).

• Sails got the start vs. Southern and piled up 114 yards on 19 carries. He scored a pair of touchdowns – one on the ground and one through the air.

• Sails grounded out 78 yards on 20 carries against Kansas State. He recorded his second rushing TD of the season.

• For the season, Sails has carried the ball 39 times and only lost six yards. His average per carry is 4.8 yards and his per game average is 94.5 yards.

• Of the 55 carries by running backs, 39 have been taken by Sails.

CHRIS MASSON UNDREA SAILS

Receivers & Tight Ends• Jason Chery was the Cajuns most dynamic wide receiver in 2008, but his presence could be duplicated by any one of three new players.

• Junior college transfers Andrew Joseph and Vernon Wolfe enrolled in school for the spring semester and look poised to make major contributions in the fall.

• Junior Marlin Miller, who sat out 2008 to focus on his academics, is back this season and will be a featured wideout. He currently leads all receivers with nine catches for 69 yards.

• Louis Lee and Richie Falgout had the greatest impact in the opener. Lee led all Cajuns with four receptions and 86 yards. Falgout tossed a TD pass to fellow receiver Pierre Hill – a 42-yard scoring strike – to put UL up for good.

• Falgout has as many career touchdown passes (4) as any of the Cajuns top three quarterbacks (Masson – 4, McGuire – 2, Gautier – 0). Falgout’s career passing line is 4-of-4 for 110 yards and four touchdowns. His career passing efficiency stands at 661.00.

• As a group, the tight ends caught 39 passes and scored nine TD’s last season. Luke Aubrey has continued adding to that total this season as he caught a 10-yard TD pass from Chris Masson in the third quarter vs. Southern and a 1-yard TD catch against Kansas State. He now has 16 career receptions with five (5) being touchdown scores.

Offensive Line• For the second straight season, the offensive line returns five starters. The Cajuns depth is young but talented and benefited from extended spring reps.

• Seniors Chris Fisher and Brad Bustle are both on the 2009 Rotary Lombardi Award preliminary watch list. Fisher is also on the Rimington Trophy Watch List.

• Senior Kyle Pirtle, and juniors Jonathan Decoster and Ian Burks round out the returning starters on the offensive line. The five would have started all 12 games together last season if Burks hadn’t been limited by a back injury and not been a starter in week 10.

• All five returning starters have lined up for the Cajuns’ first snap of both games this season. The group has now started a game together in 13 of the past 14 games – dating back to 2008. The group has combined for 118 career starts.

• The line provided excellent protetction for first-time starter Chris Masson and opened the pathways for an inexperienced running game in the season opener. Southern did not record a sack and Masson completed 18-of-24 passes for 283 yards. The line led the way to the Cajuns’ rushing for 208 yards.

• The excellent protection continued against Kansas State as the Wildcats weren’t able to sack Masson and only 1.0 tackles-for-loss were recorded.

Defensive Line• The Cajuns lost only two players up front on the defensive line, including starter Lanier Coleman. UL returns eight letterwinners on the defensive front and adds a junior college transfer and five redshirt freshmen.

• The defensive front is wealthy with upperclassmen. Seniors Hall Davis, Chris Lanaux and LaQuincy Williams join talented juniors Terrell Richardson, Jordan Topp, Sharrick Moore and Jermaine Rogers.

• To replace Coleman, the Cajuns will likely lean on sophomore Derreck Dean. Dean played in all 12 games last season as a true freshman.

• Dean led the defensive line with four tackles against Southern.

• Tyrell Gaddies, a junior college transfer making his Division I debut, recorded the D-line’s tackle-for-loss vs. Southern.

• Rogers recorded three solo tackles vs. Southern.

• As a group, the defensive line contributed 16 tackles and limited Southern’s ground game to only 115 yards on 36 carries.

• Topp was the D-line’s top tackler vs. Kansas State with three tackles.

• Lanaux recovered a fumble vs. KSU – second of his career and first since 2006.

Linebacker• Seven different players started at linebacker last season. All seven return, giving the Cajuns experience and depth.

• The competition in the spring was incomplete, as Grant Fleming and Richard Brooks were still recovering from knee injuries that cost them most of 2008.

• Seniors Antwyne Zanders and Jezreel Washington, junior Daylon McCoy and sophomores Kyron Benoit and Devon Lewis-Buchanan are others to watch.

• Against Southern, five of the Cajuns’ Top 10 tacklers were linebackers. Zanders led the way with a team-best 9 tackles (5 solo).

• Brooks and Fleming made their return to the field against Southern. Brooks registered five tackles which included a tackle-for-loss. Fleming recorded four tackles.

• Zanders led UL in tackles for the second straight game, posting 15 (14 solo) vs. Kansas State. On the season, he is by far the team’s top tackler with 24 (19 solo) – 14 more than the next player on the list. Dating to last season, Zanders has reached at least nine tackles in four straight games.

• McCoy added six solo tackles vs. KSU, all of the solo variety. He also registered the squad’s 2.0 tackles-for-loss.

Secondary• The secondary returns seven of the 10 letterwinners from a year ago.

• The team must replace starting safety Derik Keyes and cornerbacks Justin Branden and Scooter Rogers. Branden and Rogers combined to start six games.

• Returning at cornerback is Orkeys Auriene (8 starts) and Dwight Bentley (10 starts). Both started the season opener vs. Southern.

• Maurice Rolle, Jr., got the start at free safety over Gerren Blount. That ended Blount’s string of 24 consecutive games started.

• Chris Richard got the starting nod at strong safety vs. Southern.

• Bentley and Rolle each recorded their first career interceptions in the Southern game. Those turnovers led to back-to-back scores by the Cajuns in the second quarter that upped the lead to 28-12 going into halftime.

• Bentley and Rolle were the second and third leading tacklers, respectively, in the opener. The duo combined for 13 tackles (7 by Bentley; 6 by Rolle). Bentley’s tackles were all of the solo variety and included a tackle-for-loss.

• Rolle collected his second interception of the season picking off KSU’s Carson Coffman at 2:19 to return the ball to the Cajuns. After the interception, the Cajuns marched down the field in 12 plays, covering 73 yards for a TD and a 14-2 lead.

Special Teams• Special teams are extremely important to Coach Bustle and the work has always paid off under Bustle, as the Cajuns have blocked 35 kicks since 2002 – the third most in the nation.

• After losing All-Sun Belt kicker Drew Edmiston, the team auditioned junior Tyler Albrecht and redshirt freshman Brett Baer all spring and fall.

• Albrecht has received the nod as placekicker, attempting and making all eight extra points. Baer has handled the kickoff duties with his 11 kickoffs netting 609 yards, an average of 55.4 per kick.

• Albrecht attempted his first career collegiate field goal vs. Kansas State and was good from 48 yards lifting Louisiana to the 17-15 victory.

• Junior punter Spencer Ortego is entrenched as the Cajuns punter.

• The Cajuns unusual punting style sometimes limits Ortego’s kicking distance, but the results are evident. While fifth in the conference in punting average, the Cajuns were second in net punts in 2008, meaning Ortego is placing the ball to limit a return. More than half of his punts (28 of 48) were not returned, including 12 placed inside the 20-yard line. The longest return allowed by Ortego was 16 yards.

• Ortego boomed two punts vs. Southern, netting 108 yards (54.0 avg). He placed one inside the 20 and held SU to two yards on punt returns.

Veteran O-Line (part 1)… The Cajuns are one of just 13 FBS schools returning all five starters to their offensive line. UL joins Clemson, East Carolina, Florida State, Georgia, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, Rutgers, San Jose State, Southern California, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest. Veteran O-Line (part 2)… Entering the 2009 season, the Cajuns current offensive linemen have combined for 113 career starts…That ranks second in the NCAA, behind only Colorado State (125). Behind the Cajuns are UAB (107), East Carolina (101), FIU (101), Notre Dame (100) and Virginia Tech (100). Big XII Home Success… After defeating Kansas State on Saturday by a final score of 17-15, the Cajuns are now 2-2 at home vs. the Big XII…UL beat Texas A&M 29-22 in 1996, while losing to Oklahoma State in 1997 and Texas Tech in 1999. Not Having Any Luck… The Cajuns are 1-21 all-time against ranked opponents and have faced Louisiana State three times when the Tigers were ranked, falling in those three games by a combined total of 186-3.

OT FACTS

Since the NCAA adopted the overtime format in 1996, the Cajuns are 3-4 in OT games. UL fell in four overtimes to North Alabama, 48-42, on Oct. 11, 1997, and then in one overtime the very next game versus UL Monroe, 28-21, on Oct. 25, 1997. Playing in back-to-back overtime games was only the second occurrence in NCAA history at that time. The Cajuns are 3-2 in the extra session since losing those two overtime games, needing one OT to top Wofford, 37-34, on Nov. 20, 1999. The following season, Louisiana played its first road overtime game, falling in double OT at Middle Tennessee, 41-38. Rickey Bustle’s squad avenged that road overtime loss in Murfreesboro in 2000 with a heart-stopping 57-51 4OT win at MT on Nov. 15, 2003. Bustle won again in overtime, this time at Cajun Field on Oct. 29, 2005, topping Troy 31-28 in single OT. Bustle’s first OT loss came on Oct. 20, 2007, falling to Florida Atlantic in the first OT, 39-32. Bustle is 2-1 in overtime games.

In May of 2009 the Sun Belt Conference was proud to an-nounce a partnership with Cox Sports Television (CST) and Comcast Sports Southeast (CSS) to air Sun Belt Conference games on their channels with what will be known as the Sun Belt Network.

This remarkable partnership will provide Sun Belt Conference contests to be accessible in nearly 8 million households across 13 states in the southeast. The Sun Belt Network will air 45 events in the sports of football, men’s basketball, women’s bas-ketball, baseball, softball and volleyball. This remarkable confer-ence centric package will enable Sun Belt Conference regional television package to reach a new high in terms of households reached and contests aired.

“The Sun Belt Conference is pleased to enter into this agree-ment with these two important regional television partners, said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Wright Waters. “We have had a great relationship with both CST and CSS over the last several years and look forward to our continued association. Our ability to air games on television is crucial to the success of the league as we spread our message to the public.”

Compared to the previous regional television deal, the upcom-ing year will see a 25% increase in football broadcasts, a 37% increase in men’s basketball broadcasts, and a 40% increase in women’s basketball broadcasts.

In addition to CSS and CST the Sun Belt Network will expand coverage in Texas and Kentucky to provide full coverage for Sun Belt Conference football schools in the fall of 2009 to expand the reach and households reached to an even higher level.

ABOuT COMCAST/ChArTEr SPOrTS SOuThEASTCSS is a 24-hour sports channel serving approximately 5.8 million cable subscribers across twelve southeastern states. Launched in 1999, the network is a partnership between Com-cast Corporation and Charter Communications. CSS carries a full slate of college sports programming including over 40 live football games, 110 college football replay games, more than 200 men’s and women’s live college basketball games and 40 live baseball games, as well as a comprehensive mix of sports news and in-depth sports analysis geared toward fans in the Southeast.

ABOuT COx SPOrTS TElEviSiOnThe New Orleans-based sports network launched on October 28, 2002 in front of 450,000 Louisiana viewers. CST has grown over 400% to nearly 2 million in the five years since launch, making it one of the fastest growing regional sports net-works in the south. CST is currently carried on cable systems in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida and Virginia. CST is also carried on channel 421 on DISH Network in the New Orleans and Baton Rouge markets, including the counties of Pearl River and Hancock in Mississippi. CST is owned and operated by Cox Communications Louisiana, LLC. Initially targeted to be a Louisiana sports network, CST has se-cured collegiate, professional and high school events that have expanded the networks reach throughout the south.

Record Crowd Witnesses Cajuns VictoryLAFAYETTE-After trailing 12-7 in front

of a sold-out, record crowd at Cajun Field, Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns football team scored a string of 35 unanswered points to comeback and cruise to a 42-19 victory over Southern.

The attendance of 41,357 broke the previous attendance record of 38,783 against Texas A&M on Sept. 14, 1996.

It was the first meeting between both schools. Louisiana quarterback Chris Masson turned in an impressive

debut in his first career start. The Miami native completed 18-of-24 passes for 283 yards and tossed two touchdown passes. It was the 24th highest passing output in school history.

Undrea Sails was the leading rusher for the Ragin’ Cajuns (1-0). He piled up 114 yards on 19 carries with one score.

The highlight of the evening was a 42-yard touchdown pass by wide receiver Richie Falgout - the fourth of his career on his fourth career attempt - which triggered the string of 35 straight points that carried the Cajuns to victory.

The Cajuns jumped out to an early 7-0 lead mid way through the first quarter. A 1-yard touchdown run by Masson capped off a 12-play, 81 yard drive.

The Jaguars responded with scores on their next two touches - each time a touchdown pass from Bryant Lee to Juamorris Stewart – for a 12-7 lead after one quarter.

Falgout’s TD toss returned the lead to UL for good at the 12:21 mark of the second quarter.

The Cajuns’ defense then recorded inteceptions on SU’s next two touches. Sails accounted for two more Cajuns scores before the half, giving the hosts a 28-12 edge.

The UL defense held SU off the scoreboard until 1:15 remaining when Jeremiah McGinty added 1-yard TD run.

RAGIN’ CAJUNS RECAPS

Albrecht’s Kick Lifts UL Over K-StateLAFAYETTE-Tyler Albrecht made his first

collegiate field goal attempt one to remember. The junior from Destrehan converted a 48-yard field with 32 seconds remaining to lift Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns to a 17-15 victory over Kansas State.

Albrecht’s heroics sealed the Ragin’ Cajuns (2-0) first win over a BCS conference school since Sept. 14, 1996 (Texas A&M).

The attendance of 16,431 set a new record for the first two home games of the season. Combined with attendance from the Southern game, 57,788 fans came to Cajun Field during the first two weeks of the season. The previous record was 57,030 set in 1996 after games against Texas A&M and Houston.

Offensive miscues led to a slow start for UL. The third mistake of the day cost the Cajuns a couple of points. After a bad snap from the Cajuns’ 8-yard line, Chris Masson was forced to run out the back of the end zone for a safety.

Louisiana was able to regain the lead at the 9:37 mark in the second quarter. Undrea Sails was able to find the end zone on a 13-yard run, capping off a 7-play, 61-yard drive.

K-State was deep in UL territory twice and both times the Cajuns defense got a stop. With 2:14 remaining in the first half, Masson directed a 12-play, 73 yard drive capped off by a 1-yard TD pass to Luke Aubrey with five seconds on the clock.

The Wildcats added a pair of fourth quarter scores and by the 8:08 mark were ahead 15-14.

The Cajuns defense forced the Wildcats into a three-and-out on their next possession. That set up UL for the game-winning drive which started with 3:50 remaining in the contest. Masson completed an 18-yard pass to Ladarius Green to move Louisiana closer to field goal range.
