Welcome to the Sherlock Holmes* Directory.

This, Sherlock Holmes Directory, is a publication of Division 44. Sherlock Holmes did all of the research, now it is your turn to use it for your own advantage.

The purpose is two fold: 1. To promote and ease the process of Kiwanis Inter-clubbing (read below about Interclubs), and 2. To show potential members where clubs are located, and what the facility looks like when you

get there. In the words of Lt. Governor Laird Smith in response to why interclub?: Do what counts and count what you do! Every time you visit a club you will be inspired, you will get new ideas and share your

own, you will make new friends. Don't miss any opportunity to share time and friendship with like minded people. Attend an interclub! What is an interclub?: An inter-club meeting is a meeting staged by two or more Kiwanis clubs, or by a Kiwanis Club and

any K-Kids, Builders Club, Kiwanis Junior, Aktion Club, Circle K Club, or Key Club. Clubs with 20 or fewer members need a minimum of two members in attendance to constitute an

interclub meeting. Clubs with 21-30 members need three members, and clubs with 31 or more mem-bers need at least four members in attendance.

Visiting groups shall be composed of a minimum of two Kiwanians plus members of K-Kids, Builders Club, Kiwanis Junior, Aktion Club, Circle K Club, and/or Key Club must be in attendance (a lieutenant governor can only be included if he/she is a member of the participating club).

Inter-clubbing is a means of supporting Kiwanis’ Fifth Object, which is “To provide, through this club, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build a better community.”

Through the fellowship gained by inter-club activities, members learn how other clubs function, get to know their neighboring Kiwanians, develop new ideas and a broader interest in how Kiwanis oper-ates, find new ideas for use in their own club, and become better Kiwanians.

Inter-clubbing creates fun and strong fellowship.

*The author, Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle wrote about Sherlock Holmes, a fictitious character who was based on a real man, Dr Joseph Bell, a renowned forensic scientist at Edinburgh University whom Conan-Doyle studied under.

Holmes is known for a proficiency with observation, forensic science, and logical reasoning that borders on the fantastic.

Make Inter-clubbing fun: Car pool to save gas. But take along one of

your newest members to orient them to the division.

Get to know each other better. Recruit a member for a club project. Cal-Nev-Ha District has Round Robin Awards.

Division 44

When one wants to look at the history of Division 44 which was organized in 1974, you must look back

further to Division 7. That Division 7 was spun off from Zone 7 back in 1925. First a bit of history of Division 44: After the spin off from Division 7, Division 44 flourished. It grew to 16 Kiwanis Clubs, currently there

are 15 clubs. Since 1974 until 2016 there have been 42 terms of office for the Lt. Governors. Because some Lt. Gov-

ernors served multiple terms there have been 37 Kiwanians who has stepped forward to serve. Kiwanis International in 1987 opened the doors of membership to women. The most recent compilation

of Kiwanis membership shows 76% men and 24% women. Division 44 has had four female Lt. Governors: Muriel Brounstein from Folsom 1993-1994; Karen Bor-

man from Carmichael 2009-2010; Kathleen Ross from Granite Bay 2014-2015; and Lori Warden from Placerville 2015-2016.

There are 15 Kiwanis Clubs in Division 44. Fourteen Kiwanis Clubs have provided Lt. Governors to serve.

The Top 3 clubs are: the Kiwanis Club of Sacramento-Suburban with eight; the Kiwanis Club of Citrus Heights with seven; and the Kiwanis Club of Carmichael with six.

Now a bit of history after Division 44 was spun off from Division 7: Division 7 currently has eight Kiwanis Clubs: Kiwanis Club of Davis; East Sacramento; Elk Grove; Galt;

Greater Sacramento; Laguna Elk-Grove; Sacramento-West; and Woodland. Those in red were organized after Division 44 was spun off. In other words those clubs in black were and are in Division 7.

Currently Division 44 has 15 clubs: Kiwanis Clubs of: Amador County; Auburn; Carmichael; Citrus Heights; Folsom Lake; Gold Country; Granite Bay; Lincoln; Lincoln Foothills; Placerville; Rancho Cordova; Rancho Murieta; Rocklin; Roseville; and Sacramento Suburban. Those in red were organized after Division 44 was spun off. In other words those clubs in black were originally in Division 7.

A Lt. Governor must visit each club at least three times: 1. Introduction before becoming Lt. Governor; 2, A club meeting while a Lt. Governor; and 3, a board meeting while a Lt. Governor. This is quite a burden for a Lt. Governor with 15 clubs.

So it was decided by Kiwanis Leadership, that effective, October 1, 2017, the Kiwanis Club of Amador County and the Kiwanis Club of Rancho Murieta, would be moved to Division 7. In other words Division 7 would grow to 10 clubs, the eight it has now plus the two that will be transferred.
