DragonFly setup instructions were created using the latest version of MAC OS-X (Snow Leopard and Lion) and Windows XP and 7. For Vista users, please see Windows 7 setup instructions.
Note: Many of the screen shots apply to both Snow Leopard and Lion. When screen shots vary between operating systems, both versions will be shown.

This Quick Start Guide was designed to walk you through the simple steps required to set up your computer’s operating system so that the sound from your music, movies, and videos is played through DragonFly at superior sound quality, while your computer’s chimes and alerts are played through the computer’s inboard sound card, and speakers.

Mac OS XNavigate to Sound Preferences
Insert DragonFly into your USB port and connect your listening device into DragonFly’s 3.5mm jack
Open “System Preferences” from the dock or Apple® drop-down at the top left
Click “Sound” panel
Click “Output” tab
Select“AudioQuest DragonFly”

Send Computer Alerts & Sound Effects to Your Computer’s Speakers
Click “Sound Effects” tab
At “Play sound effects through: ”menu, select “Internal Speakers”
Close window

Play Audio from Music, Movies & Videos Through DragonFly
Open the Applications folder and select Utilities.
Launch Audio Midi Setup
Click “Output” tab
Select “AudioQuest DragonFly”
Adjust format & channels to desired levels. We recommend selecting 44100.0 Hz as this is the most common audio format

Send Alerts & Sound Effects to Computer’s Speakers
Select “Built-in Output”
Click on drop-down widget
Ensure “Play alerts and sound effects through this device” is greyed out

Your computer is now configured to send audio from your music, movies and videos to DragonFly, and to play your computer’s alerts and chimes and other sound effects through the computer’s internal speakers.

Windows 7 / Vista Navigate to Sound Settings
Insert DragonFly into your USB port and connect your listening device into DragonFly’s 3.5mm jack
Go to Start and launch “Control Panel”
Open “Hardware and Sound” panel
Select “Sound”

Select DragonFly as Default Audio Playback Device
The AudioQuest DragonFly is added as “Speakers.” Ensure it is the default device
Select “Speakers”
Click “Properties” button for more setup options
Click “Advanced” tab
Select the native sample rate of your music – the best selection for most users is 24 bits, 44100 Hz.
For “Exclusive Mode” check both options then click “OK”

Select Sound Scheme
Click “Sounds” tab
For “Sounds Scheme” select “No Sounds.” This prevents chimes and computer alerts from playing back through DragonFly
Enter “DragonFly” as sound scheme (optional)
Click “OK.” Close window.

Windows XPNavigate to Sounds and Audio Devices
Insert DragonFly into your USB port and connect your listening device into DragonFly’s 3.5mm jack
Go to “Start” and launch “Control Panel”
If using Classic view, open “Sound and Audio Devices Properties” panel
If using Category view, open “Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices,” then open “Sounds and Audio Devices”OR

Set DragonFly as “Default Device”
Select “Audio” tab
In “Sound Playback”, select Audioquest DragonFly as the default device

Sound Alerts and Sound Effects to Computer’s Speakers
Click “Sounds” tab
For “Sounds scheme” select “No Sounds.” This prevents computer alerts and chimes from playing through DragonFly
Click “OK”
