AMSBIO supplies a unique range of magnetic and non-magnetic silica beads for biological applications. Our MagSi
brand magnetic beads range in size from 150nm to 5µm. They can have a wide range of surface properties,
functional groups, and magnetic properties.
Our fast and flexible production process facilitates unrestricted customization possibilities with regard to sizes, kinetics,
optical, surface and binding properties. MagSi beads are specifically designed for separation, concentration and
purification of bio-molecules and specific cells or cell compartments.

MagSi Products
MagSi magnetic silica beads can be coated with
streptavidin, protein A, protein G, carboxyl groups,
or various other chemical groups, proteins, or
oligonucleotides. This enables the specific capture
of desired target molecules, cell types, or
organelles from large or small volumes of solution.
Our beads can also incorporate fluorescent dyes or
quantum dots. This allows for both manual and
imaging and quantitative detection in automated
systems. The MagSi-Tools are ideal for your own
experiments and coupling procedures.

MagSi STA
Magnetic silica particles with high quality streptavidin covalently attached to the
bead surface. Applications include immunoassays using biotin-tagged antibodies
and capture or purification of biotinylated molecules. Various types of this product

MagSIGNAL-STA 300
MagSIGNAL beads are intended for use in magnetic immunoassays (MIAs). These assays use paramagnetic beads as
detection labels instead of conventional enzymes, fluorophores, or luminescent molecules. The presence of
paramagnetic beads is detected by a magnetometer, and the signal thus measured is proportional to the
concentration of the analyte. MagSIGNAL beads are superparamagnetic beads with a mean diameter of 300 nm
which are ideal for magnetic immunoassays in a variety of formats including as conventional lateral flow tests,
microfluidic applications and biochips.

MagSi-NGSPREP
MagSi-NGSPREP is designed for an optimized purification of next generation libraries preparation through efficient clean
up of the successive enzymatic reactions (ie. End repair, dA-Tailing, Adaptor ligation). MagSi-NGSPREP is used for clean-
up of libraries targeting sequencers such as Life Technologies (ABI SOLiD, Ion Torrent); Illumina’s (HiSeq 2000, MiSeq,
GAIIx); and Roche’s 454). Magnetic bead based MagSi-NGSPREP offers an efficient solution for clean-up and size

MagSi Proteomics
Magnetic silica particles with C4, C8 or C18 modified surface for sample preparation prior to mass
spectrometry analysis. The relatively low hydrophobicity of MagSi-proteomics C4 allows the
purification and fractionation of larger biomolecules like proteins. MagSi-proteomics C8 have an
intermediate hydrophobicity and are suitable for sample preparation in for proteomic profiling
and biomarker research. MagSi-proteomics C18 are ideal for the purification, concentration and
desalting of peptides and protein digests.

MagSi-WAX and MagSi-WCX
MagSi-WAX (weak anion exchange) and MagSi-WCX (weak cation exchange) beads are an ideal tool for the
reduction of protein or peptide complexity (e.g. cell lysates).
Main applications include:
• Sample preparation and pre-fractionation prior to mass spectrometry (e.g. MALDI-TOF analysis)
• SDS-PAGE analysis
• Protein and peptide separation for multiple downstream applications
• Biomarker analysis and serum/plasma profiling
The high magnetic strength makes them applicable for both manual and automated/robotic fractionation, because
the beads will typically collect in less than 1 minute when magnetic force is applied. This quick and complete
separation gives very good reproducibility since no beads will be lost during washing steps. The quick protein
adsorption, desorption and magnetic collection significantly shortens the protocol time over conventional column
based ion exchange chromatography.

MagSi Protein A and G
Protein A and Protein G bind to Fc regions of immunoglobulins. After binding onto a
magnetic beads with a coating Protein A or Protein G, immobilized immunoglobulins
can be used for immunoprecipitation of various biomolecules, or can be eluted in a
native or denatured state.

MagSi-Tools are surface activated magnetic beads for immobilization of proteins (e.g. antibodies,
enzymes), peptides, nucleic acids or other molecules of interest. Different surface modifications allow for
choosing the optimal product for the right molecule to be coupled, and for the intended application.
The MagSi-S platform has a broad range of functionalisation possibilities such as COOH, NH2, SH, CHO,
tosyl, hydrazide and epoxy. MagSi-Tools products are available with 600nm, 1.0 µm or 3.0 µm mean
diameter.
