Rev. Leigh Jacobsen serves our
residential communities. It is
common to see Rev. Leigh preside
over a worship service or chatting
with residents in the dining room.
He frequently visits residents who
are unable to attend a service.
Your gift to the pastoral care
program ensures a spiritual
presence is available in our
communities and that they have
the resources available to them.
Today, St. Paul’s serves more than
500 seniors with chronic health
conditions. Your gift to this fund
will be used throughout the year
to provide Basic Needs care.

St. Paul's is asking all of our friends and supporters this holiday season for your
help in making this a special time of year for PACE participants.
St. Paul’s PACE provides all-inclusive healthcare services to frail, low-income
seniors suffering from chronic health conditions to help them live successfully
at home rather than a nursing home. Many PACE participants cannot afford
the most basic items for their personal care. Socks, t-shirts, gloves, shampoo –
it’s all needed.
That’s where you can make a difference!
You can contribute to our holiday donation drive by providing the following
(all new) items to PACE seniors:
There are many ways you can help make this year’s drive a success. Whichever way you choose,
your generosity will bring a smile to hundreds of seniors this holiday season.

A St. Paul’s-Style Salute to Veterans
Our military veterans were honored with a Veterans Day Salute on November 11 at the Community Care
Center. Guests were welcomed by Stewart Gaddy, retired U.S. Navy and Foundation administrative
assistant, followed by a moving invocation from Rev. Richard Anderson, military veteran and St. Paul’s
Manor resident.
Saxophonist Marcia Foreman played The Star Spangled Banner, as children from the Mighty Hornets
classroom helped with the flag-raising ceremony. With his beautiful baritone voice, St. Paul’s staff member
John Iocolano then led guests in singing the My Country ‘Tis of Thee.
Guest speaker Capt. Timothy M. Conroy spoke of highlights from his 27-year career in the U.S. Navy
(Retired). All veterans in attendance received a military recognition certificate presented by Capt. Kurt
Rothenhaus, (U.S. Navy), commanding officer of SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific. The children also
presented an art project in appreciation of veterans.
“It was an honor to lead the closing remarks for St. Paul’s annual Veterans Day recognition event,” said
Larry Hoeksema, St. Paul’s Board member. “Having served in the military, I truly appreciate that St. Paul’s
values veterans for their service to our country and community.”

Prayer Breakfast Kicks Off Season of Giving St. Paul’s celebrated its 5th Annual Prayer Breakfast on November 15 with inspiring words from Keynote
Speaker Jonathan Hunter, a creative leader in the field of supportive housing and administering to the
homeless. Musical messages of peace were given by St. Paul’s choir and Rev. Wayne Sanders. Thank you to
Episcopal Bishop James Mathes and James Pope from the San Diego Rescue Mission, who provided inspiring
words of prayer during the program to all who attended from San Diego’s faith community.

Love Uniting Volunteers (LUV) was envisioned in
the early 1980s as an auxiliary to support the
welfare of seniors at St. Paul’s Senior Services.
LUV members organize several events for St.
Paul’s – some are fundraisers, others are events
that enhance the social environment for our
residents and participants.
LUV sees to it that the holiday season is a
memorable one, especially for those residents
that may not have any family or loved ones
nearby. For example, a number of LUV members
coordinate the collection of gift items and
prepare gift bags for delivery on Christmas Eve
for each and every St. Paul’s resident.
This year, over 350 holiday gift bags will be
distributed to seniors in all of our residential
communities! For many of our seniors, this is the
only gift they will receive during the holiday
season.
Volunteer Spotlight: Union Bank of California Special thanks to volunteers from Union Bank
who served up delicious sundaes at our recent
Intergenerational Ice Cream Social.
Manor Residents
joined participants
from St. Paul’s
Senior Day and
Child Care
programs at the
Childrens Park for
some fun in the sun!
In addition to the year-
round ice cream socials
and the holiday gift
bags, LUV membership
dues also support
holiday receptions for
residents and their
families. These events
bring together
volunteers and the
residents they enjoy serving for holiday storytelling and
sign-along caroling.
The hour-long events this season will take place at each
community, and families and friends are invited to
attend:
Manor: December 15 (2:00pm)
Villa: December 15 (3:30pm)
McColl Health Center: December 20 (2:00pm)
Plaza: December 21 (1:30pm)
How you can help:
Holiday joy is made possible every year through the dedication and support of Love Uniting Volunteers and
gifts from generous people like you. For more information on how you can help the seniors at St. Paul’s
throughout the year or to become a member of LUV, please contact Stewart Gaddy at (619) 239-6900.
