NOTE
Follow all on-site/Mine lifting and safety procedures when installing
Power Step Stairs to Drill (DR460)
INTRODUCTION.
Both CHS (pipe) struts supporting the walkway frame at the front left side of the drill must
be eliminated to allow the stair's mounting frame to be installed.
PROCEDURE. See Drawing 24 525
1. Loosen the bolts at the bottom end of the struts. If it becomes obvious that the
walkway and frame will sag without the support of the struts, install a temporary
post at the front end to take the weight without sagging. At the rear end, near the
OEM accessway, this will not be possible because the stair mounting frame will
pass through this space during installation - instead support the frame with a chain
and chainblock or other suitable lifting device from a high point such as the mast of
the drill.
2. With the walkway frame safely supported, unbolt the struts. The bolting pads
welded into the walkway frame and the forward-most pad on the chassis can
remain in place but the one on the leg-jack mounting box MIGHT have to be
removed.
3. Remove the OEM ladder from the accessway.
4. Remove the existing handrail running from the OEM accessway to the operator's
cabin.
Cut the weld and fully grind flat.

Attaching Cleats Drawing 24 526
PROCEDURE
1. Grind the mating faces of the attachment cleats to a diameter of about 65mm
centred on the boltholes - the cleats that are welded to the Stair Mounting Frame
and those that are to be welded to the drill chassis. Grind the paint off and leave
the metal roughened.
2. Bolt the loose cleats to the cleats that are part of the mounting frame. Centralize the
holes on the mating cleats so that positional adjustment in any/all directions
will be possible later. Tighten the bolts (tight, but only with hand tools.)

Fit Mounting Frame Drawing 24 527
PROCEDURE.
See Pages 8 & 9
1. Pick up the Mounting Frame with a forklift truck. CHAIN THE MOUNTING
FRAME TO THE MAST OR CARRIAGE OF THE FORKLIFT SO THAT IT
CANNOT SLIP AND FALL.
2. Lift the Mounting Frame under the side walkway/cabin of the drill per View Z-2. See
if it can be located under the drill floor per Views Y-1 and Y-2. If so, remove the
forklift and mounting frame and prepare the relevant areas for welding. If it cannot
be located per these Views, work out what changes have to be made to cleats 24
514 01 & 02, or if cleats 24 524 01 & 02 should be substituted. When the details
are finalized, make the changes and grind the paint etc. Note that there are hoses
and a distributor/manifold attached to the jack leg mounting box to which cleat 24
514/524 01 will be welded, which hoses and distributor/manifold might have to be
moved to fit the cleat.
3. Bring the mounting frame with the cleats fitted back under the side walkway/cabin
and tackweld the cleats to the jack leg mounting and chassis. Either with the
mounting frame still attached or with same removed, weld the cleats on per View
X and Details X.1 and X.2
4. Either with the mounting frame bolted to the cleats or with the bare cleats attached
to the machine, weld the Rear Gusset 24 514 03 to the rear cleat and the jack leg
mounting per Detail X.3
5. Fit additional cleats and struts per View W while the temporary supports per Drg
24 525 are still in place. Mating faces of bolted joints must have paint ground from
near the boltholes same as in Drg 24 526.
6. Fully tighten all mounting bolts so as to have friction-grip joints.
USE SAFE WORKING AND LIFTING PRACTISES AT ALL TIMES
Use appropriate welding procedures.
NOTE
Follow all on-site/Mine lifting and safety procedures when installing

Power Step Stairs to Drill (DR460)
WARNING
Raising the POWER STEP Stair by external means can create a vacuum in the hydraulic
cylinder and allow air into the hydraulic system, defeating the inherent safety features of
the POWER STEP.
This must be avoided, to maintain safe operation of the POWER STEP.
In instances where the use of external means to raise the Ladder must be used, please
follow the following instructions:
Loosen hard plumbed hydraulic lines on cylinder side of lock valve (on cylinder.)
Raise Stair by available means.
Note: Make necessary arrangements to collect displaced oil, and be aware that air enters
the piston side of the cylinder as platform is raised.
Lock in raised position.
Re-tighten hydraulic fittings.
SECURE THE STAIR IN THE RAISED POSITION, MECHANICALLY, CHAIN & TAG-OUT
THE POWER STEP
To recommission the POWER STEP:
Loosen hydraulic fittings on cylinder side of lock valve.
Note: Collect displaced oil.
Lower Stair to lowest position, using alternate safety approved means, fully retracting
cylinder. Ensure all personnel are clear of step radius.
Operate electrical control switch to purge air from the hydraulic line systems, lock valve
and cylinder.
Tighten the hydraulic fittings either side of lock valve to restriction fitting.
Cycle step unloaded several times to purge all air from hydraulic system.
The Power Step will not operate correctly if there is any air in the hydraulic circuit (due to
the incorrect operation of the lock valve).

Section 4 Operating Procedure
Lower Stair
Position machine in a level safe area before lowering Stair.
If Drill is in operation - retract drill bit from ground - stop operation - apply hand
brake - maintain hydraulic jacks in position - lower the stair.
Height of the Drill platform from the ground is not relevant to the Stair operation.
The modulating step treads will self-adjust to maintain a horizontal level at any Drill
platform height.
To operate the Stair hold the switch in the down position.
Once the Stair is lowered to the ground level, release the switch.
Raise Stair
Ascend the Stair
Ensure area around the Stair is clear.
Hold down the switch to raise the Stair.
When the Stair is fully stowed the proximity switch will alert the motor that the Stair
is fully stowed. Release the switch.
NOTE
Follow all on-site/Mine lifting and safety procedures when operating
Power Step Stairs for Drill (DR460)
OPERATING NOTES
NOTE: FLOW CONTROL VALVE ADJUSTMENT:
The valve should be positioned to restrict the flow and speed of the Power Step when
lowering. Adjust the knob on top of the valve by turning left or right (clockwise) when the
step is being lowered, until it is lowering at a safe and reasonable speed.
When it is adjusted, lock the adjusting knob by tightening the grub screw located on the
side of the knob.
NOTE: MAGNETIC 'GO' SWITCH ADJUSTMENT:
The switch target trigger area is located on the opposite side and end from the cable entry
point on the switch. Once it is mounted to the switch bracket, adjust the switch in or out
from the stair steel trigger point, to be within 3mm - 10mm from touching each other when
the stair is in the desired rest position.
[DO NOT EXCEED 10MM DISTANCE BETWEEN THE SWITCH AND STRIKER PLATE].
Test by raising and lowering the Power Step a couple of times and adjust again if
necessary.
