Biotechnologies (DBT), Govt. of India, visited KINFRA Hi-Tech Park here

recently to evaluate the functioning of the Bio Technology Incubation Centre

(BTIC) set up in the Park, with a grant of Rs. 11 cr. from the DBT.

“We are here to review the progress of the innovative project and also to

release the remainder of the funds”, said Dr. D. Yogeswara Rao, Chairman

of the Experts Committee, which included Dr. Purnima Sharma, Smt. Veena

Tamta Bhatia and Dr. Deepan Wita.

The team was warmly welcomed by Dr. G.C. Gopala Pillai, MD-KINFRA who

made a presentation incorporating a brief history of the project and KINFRA’s

future plans for development.

The common facility lab is operated by Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology.

The team of RGCB, co-ordinated by Sri. Radhakrishnan R. Nair, Sr. Scientist

explained to the DBT team the facilities created in the lab.

units in Biotechnology Park.

BTIC in KINFRA Hi-Tech Park has already become a major attraction in

Kerala’s technology advancement scenario. With an aim to accelerate and

support the research process of entrepreneurs, the common facility lab with

an area of 8000 sq.ft. was set up, which also benefits the incubatees in the

Biotechnology Park. Currently, 12 incubation modules are available for

allotment in the Park.

10th edition of IESA Vision

Summit 2015 organised by

India Electronics &

Association in Bangalore

on 2-3, February 2015.

Dr.G.C. Gopala Pillai was

one of the lead speakers at

the States Session on Day 1 of the event. He spoke of the unique opportunities

available in Kerala for investment in

the electronic semiconductor field,

in the background of KINFRA’s

emerging initiatives to set up an

Electronic Manufacturing Cluster in

Cochin. There have been many

enquires on the details of the

proposed Cluster during the event.

KINFRA, which acted as the nodal agency for the conception and creation ofthe Green Field Airport in Kannur, Kerala is now gearing up to help take

advantage of theimmense connectivitybeing offered, with thesetting up of an industrialdevelopment zone in thenearby town ofMattannur. KINFRA isalready entrusted with

the task of identifying and acquiring the required land for the purpose.

In this connection, Hon. Minister-Industries & IT, Sri. P.K. Kunhalikutty helddiscussions with Smt. P.K. Sreemathy, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha)from Kannur which led to the decision to acquire land at a location as close

to the airport as possible. Mattannur meets all the parameters in this direction.

Accordingly, a team comprising Smt. P.K. Sreemathi, Dr. G.C. Gopala Pillai,MD-KINFRA and Sri. V.R. Balu, Special Secretary to Minister-Industries & IT,inspected several locations in the area such as Velliamparampu,

Panayathamparampu andModakkandy. Already KINFRA owns150 acres of land in Velliamparampuacquired for the purpose ofestablishing a KINFRA IndustrialPark.

Aiming at enhancing the exportpotential of products from the Malabar region, the new zone looks at the possibilityof bringing in huge industrial production units with products mainly meant for theexport market.

India’s Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce, comprising membersof the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha visited the Rubber Park in Irapuram,Ernakulum district, Kerala. The visiting team of dignitaries comprised Sri.Vayalar Ravi and Sri. Joy Abraham both Kerala MPs. The visitors were welcomed

by Team Rubber Park led by Sri. J. Krishnakumar, MD-Rubber Park India.The committee's purpose of visit was to have first-hand information on theState of the rubber industry in India, and to hold discussions with the variousstakeholders in the Park.The Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee addressed thegathering and interacted with the officials.The Committee also visited units such as Rubek Balloons, Hindustan Latexand Jollyflex.
