• Lead dog steers and sets the pace.
• Swing dogs when it’s time to change direction they swing the rest of the team behind them.
• Team dogs add power to the team.
• Wheel dogs nearest the sled; must have a relatively calm disposition so as not to be startled by the sled just behind it.
