Matt. 26:31-35

• “I Will Never”• A good thing to say– Times we ought to say that

• A hard thing to live up to.– Sometimes we fail.

• We ought to be careful when we say those things.– A possible arrogance. (1 Cor. 10:12)– “God help us to never…”

3 Things God will Never Do!

God Will Never Break His Covenant

• Judges 2:1• Man can be unfaithful to their covenants

– Ex. Pinky promise– Promises regarding Jobs– Marriage covenants (Mal. 2:14)

• Cutting a Covenant– Jer. 34:18-20– Gen. 15:8-10, 17-18– Jer. 33:20-21

• Certainly doesn’t mean that his covenant is unconditional. (Deut. 7:9)

God is Trustworthy

• Specific Description– Titus 1:2 “God, whocannot lie”– Isaiah 26:4– Psalm 22:4-5

• Images of his faithfulness/Trustworthiness– A shield (psalm 91:4)– A rock (Deut. 32:4; Psalm 18:1-50 )

He will cover you with his pinions,

and under his wings you will find refuge;

his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.

(Psalm 91:4)

“The Rock, his work is perfect,

for all his ways are justice.A God of faithfulness and

without iniquity, just and upright is he.

(Deut. 32:4)

Fulfillment of God’s Promises/Covenants

• Promises to Abraham (Gen. 12)• Promises to Isaac (Gen. 26)• Promises to Jacob (Gen. 28)• Promises to Moses (Exod 6)• Promises to David (2 Sam. 7)

God will never forget our deeds

• Amos 8:7• Easy for man to forget• Matt. 26– Mary never forgotten (Matt. 26:13)

• An interesting twist:– This can work for us or against us! (Eccl. 12:14)

God will never leave nor forsake

• Heb. 13:5• Deut. 31:6• A Claim that cannot be made by man– Man is faulty– Man is confined to time and space

• God is Omnipresent (Ps. 139:7-12)• An incredible confidence– As we do the Lord’s work (Matt. 28:20)– In times of trouble (Josh. 1:9)

FOOTPRINTS IN THE SANDOne night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky. In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints. Other times there were one set of footprints. This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life When I was suffering from anguish, sorrow, or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints. 

FOOTPRINTS IN THE SANDSo I said to the Lord, "You promised me, Lord, That if I followed you, you would walk with me always. But I noticed that during the most trying periods of my life There have only been one set of prints in the sand. Why, When I have needed you most, you have not been there for me?"The Lord replied, "The times when you have seen only one set of footprints Is when I carried you."
