Definition of Conflict

In political term, conflict refers to an ongoing state of hostility between two groups of people.

A state of disharmony between incompatible or antithetical persons, ideas, or interests; a clash.

A state of open, often prolonged fighting; a battle or war.

CONCEPT OF CONFLICT

•Carries negative connotations.•Opposite of cooperation and peace, commonly associated with violence.

MICRO CONFLICT

What is micro level conflict???

Focuses on the behavior and welfare of individuals, households and groups or communities.

Originates from individuals’ behavior and their interactions with their surroundings.

Always associated with the word “intra”. eg: Intrapersonal conflict, Intragroup conflict

INTRAPERSONAL CONFLICT

•occurs within an individual

•feelings, emotions, actions

•For instance, it may occur when you have two or more choices.

INTRAGROUP CONFLICT

Conflict among members of a group.

Differences in opinion.

Eg: Group discussion in our class. Everyone has their own opinion and perception.

MACRO CONFLICT

What is MACRO LEVEL

CONFLICT?

Examples: Interorganisation conflict, Intergroup conflict

Micro foundations may lead to macro-level conflict.

Associated with the word “inter”.

Involves two or more groups, organizations.

Occurs in societal level.

In competitive situations, the two or more parties each have mutually inconsistent goals, so that when either party tries to reach their goal it will undermine the attempts of the other to reach theirs. Therefore, competitive situations will by their nature cause conflict.
