It's about the verbs, not the nouns....

Something to consider.... "Everything is amazing right now."

More Standards!?

National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) Pre-K-Grade 12 Gifted Program Standards

http://www.nagc.org/index.aspx?id=546

WHY?

"These standards help define the comprehensiveness necessary in designing and developing options for gifted learners at the local level."

Guiding Principles

• Giftedness is dynamic and constantly developing

• Giftedness is found among students from a variety of backgrounds

• Standards should focus on student outcomes rather than practices

Guiding Principles (continued)

• Educators are broadly defined as administrators, teachers, counselors and other instructional support

• "Programming" rather than "program"

The Six Gifted Programming Standards

1.Learning and Development2.Assessment3.Curriculum Planning & Instruction4.Learning Environments5.Programming6.Professional Development

Standard 1: Learning & Development

Educators, recognizing the learning and developmental differences of students with gifts and talents, promote ongoing self-understanding, awareness of their needs, and cognitive and affective growth of these students in school, home, and community settings to ensure specific student outcomes.

Inner/Outer Circle Activity

Two concentric circles. Equal number of people in both circles.

The Question:Thinking about Standard 1, what do we do to support this practice?
