Pre-AP Teachers

What is Pre-Advanced Placement? Pre-AP is a curriculum that focuses on skills

and concepts for building success in Advanced Placement classes (which begin in tenth grade) and Advanced Placement tests.

Pre-AP lays the foundation by developing a “planned program of teaching skills and concepts over several years.”

Students can perform well at rigorous academic levels.

We can prepare students for higher intellectual engagement by starting the development of skills and acquisition of knowledge as early as possible.

Pre-AP is based on the following beliefs:

Accelerating the Reading and Math curriculum by working on current grade standards as well as standards for the following grade. (There will be summer reading.)

Science and Social Studies will be project based.

Students will receive some music instruction.

Students will have homework.

appropriately. Time Management - Stay on task. Focus on instruction and group

activities. Homework - Individual assessment in learning helps students

become more responsible and reinforces lessons learned in class (McCann).

Test Preparation - Studying for tests is important. Create good notes and practice self-tests of concepts learned in class.

Rigor and High Expectations - Students’ engagement in high quality instruction

Parents and Teachers - Support, team-work, and dual communication
