The Commissioner of theTennessee Department ofFinance and Administrationis providing official notifica-tion, pursuant to 42 CFR §431.408 and 59 Fed. Reg.49249, of intent to file anamendment to the Tenn-Care II Demonstration.The amendment, which willbe known as “Amendment43,” will be filed with theCenters for Medicare andMedicaid Services (CMS),a federal agency located inBaltimore, Maryland, with aRegional Office in Atlanta,Georgia.In Amendment 43, thestate is proposing to ex-tend its medication therapymanagement (MTM) bene-fit for an additional 12months. MTM is a clinicalservice provided by li-censed pharmacists, theaim of which is to optimizedrug therapy and improvetherapeutic outcomes forpatients. MTM services in-clude medication therapyreviews, pharmacotherapyconsults, monitoring effi-cacy and safety of medica-tion therapy, and otherclinical services.TennCare's MTM benefit

The state pro-posed to operate the MTMbenefit on a two-year pilotbasis in order to evaluatethe impact of MTM serv-ices on health outcomes,as well as the cost andquality of care for affectedmembers.In Amendment 43, thestate proposes to extendits MTM pilot program foran additional 12 months,through the end of June2021. The purpose of thisextension is to allow thestate to gather additionaldata on the effectivenessof the MTM program.Based on program imple-mentation to date, the statebelieves this additionaltime will help ensure thestate has adequate data toassess the impact of theMTM initiative.
