Mechanical Models offers a line of kits that provide everything you need to build an attractive model using your mini lathe or mini mill. Our products include two cannons and four Stirling cycle heat engines. The model engines are fully functional.
Our kits are available in three forms: material kits (material and drawings), assembly kits (fully machined parts ready for assembly), and fully assembled models.

Fuel for Stirling Engines
Our Stirling hot air engines are designed to burn alcohol.
WARNING: Do not use gasoline, white gas, Coleman fuel, or any other gasoline-type fuels in these engines.
You can use any of these fuels:
§ Pure methanol (such as HEET brand gas-line antifreeze or its generic equivalent)—available in automotive supply stores
§ Ethanol/methanol mixture (“denatured alcohol”)—available in paint and hardware stores
§ Pure ethanol (200 proof grain alcohol)—available in liquor stores and pharmacy supply houses

Working with Metric Dimensions
The drawings included with our models show all dimensions in millimeters. Rather than converting all dimensions to inches, why not do what the rest of the world does: work in millimeters!
To work comfortably in metric units, you'll need metric measuring tools. Start with an electronic digital caliper, which switches between display of inches and millimeters with the press of a button.
