My Computer Rebuild

A step by step look at

Refurbishing an old p.c.Click thru at your leisure

• Why do this I hear you say, well, after months of erratic behavior (from the P.C. not me) I came to the conclusion the motherboard was rooted.

• I didn’t want to spend a lot on a new board but unfortunately due to the age of the p.c. no new boards supported my processor, ram, or even the agp video card.

• I spoke to some tech guys all of which said “do a clean install of Windows or the pc will blue screen you on boot”

• BULLSHIT • Well I managed it with no problems.

• Ok. The mother board is asus

• P5K-E wifi edition

• Note the all copper heat dispersion tube, handy if its sitting in a 45 degree garage

• Pentium• Core 2• Quad• Four

processors is insane

• Well actually I hear its really just 2 core 2 duo’s soldered together.

• 2 Gig of 800 MHz matched RAM

• In and ready to go

Mounted into the case.Install graphics card. GeForce

8600GT. pci express.

• Lights and internal speaker

• Note the six internal SATA plugs

• USB • Fire wire

Easy fit rails no screws

Dampered mounts

5 Hdd’s 1140 Gig

• All wired up and ready to go.

• I have only connected the one drive at the moment as I didn’t want to stress it on first boot

The repair• O.K. This is the trick. insert

the windows disk boot into it. Then ask it to install windows, it will detect a previous copy of windows and will ask if you would like to repair it, say yes.

• Don’t use repair console directly otherwise you will end up loosing all your cool settings that took years to get just right

• Then boot up, install new motherboard drivers and utilities, update bios via flash utility, install graphics card drivers, run a program called dial-a-fix to repair the windows auto update function, and bob’s your uncle, one fully functioning P.C.

• Tech Guys are lazy fuckers!!!

Ooh look 4 yes 4 processors!

Running memtest utility to test the integrity of the ram

There you go simple wasn’t it.
