Meet the Teacher• My name is Kathy Thompson.

This will be my second year teaching. I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of West Georgia. I am married to my high school sweetheart, Jonathan Thompson. We are both from Cedartown. We have a fur baby as we call her. She is an eight month old schnauzer. I love to spend my extra time traveling, spend time with my family and friends, and going to church. I am excited for the new opportunity to fifth grade reading and social studies this school year. I look forward to teaching your child!

School Day• School begins at 7:45 • Tardy Bell rings at 8:00• We will be eating

breakfast in our classroom beginning @ 7:50am.

• Car riders should NOT be dropped off before 7:15.

• Do not drop your child off out back after 7:50. You must pull around to the front of the building, walk your child in, and let them get a tardy slip to enter class.

School will dismiss at 3:00.Our first buses will be called at 3:05 and most bus riders will be picked up by 3:40.Car riders should be picked up before 3:30.As the line forms, please remember you cannot pull around the building until the barrier is moved (usually around 2:35). To make the line move quicker, you should have your card visible from the right side of the car’s front wind shield.

Breakfast/Lunch/Ice Cream

• Every child will receive Free Breakfast & Free Lunch.

• If you send your child lunch- You can not send can soft drinks. Please make sure if you send a drink, it has been unopened (thermos’s leak). Also make sure if your child’s lunch needs refrigeration that you provide an ice pack in the lunchbox. Do not send food that needs warming up.

• Ice Cream will be sold for 50 cents. Ice cream will be sold after lunch on Fridays.

Classroom Rules• I expect all students to behave

appropriately in the classroom, restrooms, hallways, cafeteria, playground and any other area of the school building.

• 1. Be in your seat and ready to learn when class starts.

• 2. Always be prepared; have pencil, paper, books and all other materials everyday.

• 3. Keep your hands, feet, books, and other objects to yourself.

• 4. Listen carefully and follow directions.• 5. NO BULLYING!

Behavior Management

• Each homeroom will have a behavior folder that will go with them to each class. They will receive a circle if they break any school or classroom rules. If they receive four circles in one day it is an automatic office referral.

Reading• Will be read four chapter books along with some

short informational passages this year. • We will cover these four books

– Steal Away Home– Naraina The Loin, The Witch and The Wardrobe– Tuck Everlasting– The Westing Game

• We will have random daily grades through the week. Test will be every Friday over the vocabulary and comprehension of the chapters we are covering.

• Vocabulary study guides will be handed out every Monday.

• Please check my online classroom for studyguides and activities.

Social Studies• We will begin the year learning

about the Civil War. • Please check my online

classroom for activities and information.

Schedule

Activity Schedule

• Students will visit five special classes each week. Our schedule is as follows:

• On P.E. days please make sure your child wears tennis shoes and dresses appropriately.

Field TripsWe will take field trips throughout the year. There will be a cost for each field trip we

attend. This year we will be selling t-shirts to wear on field trips and other special days.

Deadline to order t-shirts is August 5, 2015.

Grading • Reading and Social Studies

Grades are weighted as follows: 

• Test- 60% • Daily-35% • Homework-%5• If your child is absent the work

they have missed should be made up in three days.

Supplies • Tissues• Pencils• Notebook paper• Hand sanitizer• Baby wipes or Clorox wipes• Soap• You must always have a pencil.• Bring your interactive notebooks to class.• Either a binder or a draw string book bag.• Agenda• Communicator

Parent Involvement

• Parents are welcome to volunteer. If you would like to volunteer at the school in the library, classroom, etc. You must get a back ground check & get fingerprinted. You will need to contact Mrs. Peggy at the central office for all the details.

Stay Connected Newsletters will be sent home weekly. Check your

child’s folder & Agenda. If you need to write a note, please do so in the agenda. Send the folder
