What is

National Community CollegeAerospace Scholars (NCAS)?

NCAS is an interactive on-line

learning experience, highlighted

by a three-day internship where

selected students are encouraged

to study math, science,

engineering, or computer science

by interacting with engineers at

NASA.

Timeline Application Available Online: Fall 2011

Application Deadline: November 10, 2011

Student Notification: November 17, 2011

Complete online lessons: December-January

NASA onsite visit: April/May 2012

Online Lessons

During the winter, scholars complete 4 online

lessons to create a mission to Mars. These

include creating a budget, mission timeline,

research proposal and a technical drawing.

Team Projects

Each team will work with a NASA scientist or 

engineer to design a Martian rover and present

their research and testing results during the

closing ceremony.

Rover CompetitionEach team will design, build, and test their

own MARSUV rover on a Mars-simulative course.

Closing Ceremony

At the conclusion of the three-day

session, scholars present their 

Martian rover prototype to other 

scholars and NASA employees.

Follow-Up Commitment

Once the distance learning activities are finished and the on-site

workshop has ended, scholars are encouraged to:

Maintain contact with their mentor and fellow scholars

Help recruit new students to the program

Maintain contact with NASA concerning their choice of 

college, choice of major, and post-graduation plans.
