Neutralizatio !"e#iitio$
Inchemistry, neutralization or neutralisation,is a chemical reaction in which an acid and a
base react quantitatively with each other. In areaction in water, neutralization results in
there being no excess of hydrogen orhydroxide ions present in solution. The pH of
the neutralized solution depends on the acidstrength of the reactants. eutralization is
used in many applications.

Neutralization (denition)
In the context of a chemical reaction the termneutralization is used for a reaction betweenan acid and a base or al!ali. Historically, this
reaction was represented as" acid + base = salt + water

Importance
eutralization of acidic water is an importantstep in reclaiming land that was once mined.
#ine run$o% renders water around the mine siteacidic, and the acid must be neutralized withlime, or calcium oxide &'a() acting as a base,
before the area can be reclaimed. However, thisprocedure is expensive. *ecent studies have
shown that constructed wetlands+human$madeshallow ponds containing water plants such as
cattails+can be an e%ective and less costlymethod of neutralizing acid mine drainage.

&onclusion
Titration is to determine theconcentration of some substance in asolution by slowly adding measured
amount of some other substance until areaction is shown to be complete.
Therefore, titrimetric method is a carefultool to determine the exact concentrationof a given volume of acid. This can be goodreference with the treatment ofhyperacidity among patients.
