(Joh 20:30) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples,

which are not written in this book:(Joh 20:31) But these are written,

that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through

his name.

Nick at night

(Joh 3:1-10) There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art

a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus

answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born

when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily,

verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is

born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth,

and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and

said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

I. Unfolding the scene

A. Nicodemus

(Joh 3:1) There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a

ruler of the Jews:

(Joh 3:10) Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a

master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

B. Came by night

(Joh 3:2) The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou

art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be

with him.

(Joh 7:50) Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of

them,)

(Joh 19:39) And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night,

and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred

pound weight.

(Joh 13:30) He then having received the sop went

immediately out: and it was night.

(Joh 11:10) But if a man walk in the night, he

stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

(Joh 3:19-21) And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light,

because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil

hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds

should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light,

that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in

God.

(1Co 3:13) Every man's work shall be made

manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by

fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of

what sort it is.

II. Understanding the kingdom of

god

A. Verily verily

(Joh 3:3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the

kingdom of God.

B. Born again

(Joh 3:3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say

unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the

kingdom of God.

(Joh 3:3) Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born

again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

III. Utilizing the kingdom of god

A. Born of water

(Joh 3:5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into

the kingdom of God.

(Mar 1:4) John did baptize in the

wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of

sins.

(Eze 36:24-27) For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you

out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I

sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your

filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I

put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I

will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do

them.

(Tit 3:4-5) But after that the kindness and love of God our

Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of

righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy

Ghost;

(Eph 5:25-26) Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and

gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by

the word,

B. Born of the Spirit

(Joh 3:5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a

man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the

kingdom of God.

(Col 2:13) And you, being dead in your sins and the

uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together

with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

C. Entering in

(Joh 3:5) Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a

man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into

the kingdom of God.

(Rom 14:17) For the kingdom of God is not

meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

(1Co 4:20) For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in

power.

(Luk 17:20) And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered

them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with

observation:

(Luk 17:21) Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God

is within you.
