Hi, I’m
Nike!!
+ LOVES..
Hanging out with other dogs
Dallas and Nike have known each other since they were puppies.
Playing Going for car rides Sleeping Looking out the window Chasing squirrels

GOAL OF THE BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTION
Nikes tricks include the following: sitting down, laying down, giving a “high-5,” rolling over, and giving a kiss …& now… each trick has been paired with a specific sound
I’ve implemented five sounds into my power point and with the help of behavior analysis Nike will be able to respond with an old trick, such as rolling over, in the presence of the new discriminative stimulus, rather than in the presence of the old discriminative stimulus, me saying “Nike roll over.”
WHAT’S THAT
SOUND??? ♪
+PAIRING PROCEDURE Step#1
UNLEARNED REINFORCER’S included pieces of dog food, as well as human food, and treats.
EXAMPLE being used involves sound of a bell with immediate presentation of a treat
NEUTRAL STIMULI (5)
1) Sound of a doorbell
2) Sound of clapping
3) Sound of a clock (tick tock)
4) Sound of a duck quack
5) Sound of a drum roll
SOUND
NO SOUND NO TREAT

THE RESULTS of the PAIRING PROCEDURE
The pairing of the neutral stimulus (the sound of the bell) and the unlearned reinforcer (the treat) resulted in the value-altering principle (the pairing procedure converts a neutral stimulus into a learned reinforcer or learned aversive stimulus)
Which would not have been possible with out a motivating operation (a procedure or condition that affects learning and performance with respect to a particular reinforcer or aversive condition).
BEFORE: Nike does not hear the bell
DEPRIVATION:Nike has not had food for over 6
hours
AFTER: Nike does hear the
bell
BEHAVIOR:Nike gives
me a “high-5”
MOTIVATING OPERATION
+
DISCRIMINATION TRAINING PROCEDURESTEP#2
BEFORE:No
praiseAFTER:
No praise
AFTER:Praise
S-Delta:No
sound of bell
SD:Sound of
BellBEHAVIOR
:Nike gives a “High-5”
reinforcing or punishing a response in the presence of one stimulus and extinguishing it or allowing it to recover in the presence of another stimulus
+DIFFERENTIAL REINFORCEMENTSTEP#3
reinforcing one set of responses and withholding reinforcement for another set of responses BEFORE:
Nike receives
no praise
AFTER:Nike
receives no praise
AFTER:Nike
receives praise
BEHAVIOR:
Nike rolls over
BEHAVIOR:
Nike gives a “High-5”
This behavioral contingency was used to ensure that only the desired response (give a “High-5”) was occurring to the sound of the bell and not any other response (for example: rolling over).
+ANALOG TO AVOIDANCE OF LOSS OF A REINFORCER
This helps Nike stay on task during the entire eight minute power point.
Peanut butter is one of his favorite reinforcers!!
BEFORE:Will lose
opportunity for peanut butter in 8 minutes
AFTER:Won’t lose
the opportunity for peanut butter in 8 minutes
BEHAVIOR:Nike is
attentive and cooperative
for 8 minutes during power
point
+
OOOPS! That last contingency was incorrect …
WHY?
Nike is a dog.
Therefore he is non-verbal
So really the presentation of peanut butter
after the power point is an ineffective contingency because I can not use rule control!
BEFORE:
Nike has no peanut butter
DELAY:
8 minutes after
BEHAVIOR:
Nike makes a correct
response
AFTER:
Nike has peanut butter
ineffective contingency
+
(Unless I continue to intermittently reinforce the responses after this power point)
AND… The responses will eventually extinguish
Even after all the time training, pairing, discriminating, &differentially reinforcing Nikes behavior.
THE END!!
NOW…
