Batteries and chargersBattery and charger infoYour device is intended for use with a BL-5CBrechargeable battery. Nokia may makeadditional battery models available for thisdevice. Always use original Nokia batteries.
This device is intended for use when suppliedwith power from the following chargers:AC-11. The exact Nokia charger modelnumber may vary depending on the plugtype, identified by E, X, AR, U, A, C, K, B, or N.
44
The battery can be charged and dischargedhundreds of times, but it will eventually wearout. When the talk and standby times arenoticeably shorter than normal, replace thebattery.
Battery safetyAlways switch the device off and unplug thecharger before removing the battery. Whenyou unplug a charger or an accessory, holdand pull the plug, not the cord.
When your charger is not in use, unplug itfrom the electrical plug and the device. Donot leave a fully charged battery connectedto a charger, as overcharging may shortenthe battery’s lifetime. If left unused, a fullycharged battery will lose its charge over time.
Always keep the battery between 15°C and25°C (59°F and 77°F). Extreme temperaturesreduce the capacity and lifetime of thebattery. A device with a hot or cold batterymay not work temporarily.
Accidental short-circuiting can happen whena metallic object touches the metal strips onthe battery, for example, if you carry a sparebattery in your pocket. Short-circuiting maydamage the battery or the connecting object.
Do not dispose of batteries in a fire as theymay explode. Dispose of batteries accordingto local regulations. Recycle when possible.Do not dispose as household waste.
Do not dismantle, cut, open, crush, bend, puncture, or shred cells or batteries. If a
battery leaks, do not let battery liquid touchskin or eyes. If this happens, immediatelyflush the affected areas with water, or seekmedical help.
Do not modify, remanufacture, attempt toinsert foreign objects into the battery, orimmerse or expose it to water or otherliquids. Batteries may explode if damaged.
Use the battery and charger for theirintended purposes only. Improper use, or useof unapproved batteries or incompatiblechargers may present a risk of fire, explosion, or other hazard, and mayinvalidate any approval or warranty. If youbelieve the battery or charger is damaged, take it to a service centre for inspectionbefore continuing to use it. Never use adamaged battery or charger. Only use thecharger indoors.

Medical devicesOperation of radio transmitting equipment, including wireless phones, may interfere withthe function of inadequately protectedmedical devices. Consult a physician or themanufacturer of the medical device todetermine whether they are adequatelyshielded from external radio frequencyenergy.
Implanted medical devicesManufacturers of medical devicesrecommend a minimum separation of 15.3centimetres (6 inches) between a wirelessdevice and an implanted medical device, suchas a pacemaker or implanted cardioverterdefibrillator, to avoid potential interference
with the medical device. Persons who havesuch devices should:• Always keep the wireless device morethan 15.3 centimetres (6 inches) from themedical device.• Not carry the wireless device in a breastpocket.• Hold the wireless device to the earopposite the medical device.• Switch the wireless device off if there isany reason to suspect that interference istaking place.• Follow the manufacturer directions forthe implanted medical device.
If you have any questions about using yourwireless device with an implanted medicaldevice, consult your health care provider.

Any carry case, belt clip,or holder for body-worn operation shouldnot contain metal and should position thedevice the above-stated distance from yourbody.
To send data files or messages requires aquality connection to the network. Data filesor messages may be delayed until such aconnection is available. Follow the separationdistance instructions until the transmissionis completed.
VehiclesRadio signals may affect improperly installedor inadequately shielded electronic systemsin motor vehicles such as electronic fuelinjection, electronic antilock braking, electronic speed control, and air bagsystems. For more info, check with themanufacturer of your vehicle or itsequipment.
Only qualified personnel should install thedevice in a vehicle. Faulty installation orservice may be dangerous and may invalidateyour warranty. Check regularly that allwireless device equipment in your vehicle ismounted and operating properly. Do notstore or carry flammable liquids, gases, orexplosive materials in the samecompartment as the device, its parts, oraccessories. Remember that air bags inflatewith great force. Do not place your device oraccessories in the air bag deployment area.
Potentially explosive environmentsSwitch your device off in any area with apotentially explosive atmosphere, forexample near petrol pumps at servicestations. Sparks in such areas could cause anexplosion or fire resulting in bodily injury ordeath. Observe restrictions in fuel servicestations, storage, and distribution areas;chemical plants; or where blastingoperations are in progress. Areas with apotentially explosive atmosphere are often, but not always, clearly marked. They includeareas where you would be advised to switchyour vehicle engine off, below deck on boats, chemical transfer or storage facilities, and
47
where the air contains chemicals or particlessuch as grain, dust, or metal powders. Youshould check with the manufacturers ofvehicles using liquefied petroleum gas (suchas propane or butane) to determine if thisdevice can be safely used in their vicinity.
Certification information (SAR)This mobile device meets guidelines forexposure to radio waves.
Your mobile device is a radio transmitter andreceiver. It is designed not to exceed thelimits for exposure to radio wavesrecommended by international guidelines. These guidelines were developed by theindependent scientific organisation ICNIRPand include safety margins designed toassure the protection of all persons, regardless of age and health.
The exposure guidelines for mobile devicesemploy a unit of measurement known as theSpecific Absorption Rate or SAR. The SARlimit stated in the ICNIRP guidelines is 2.0watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over 10grams of tissue. Tests for SAR are conductedusing standard operating positions with thedevice transmitting at its highest certifiedpower level in all tested frequency bands. The actual SAR level of an operating devicecan be below the maximum value becausethe device is designed to use only the powerrequired to reach the network. That amountchanges depending on a number of factorssuch as how close you are to a network basestation.
The highest SAR value under the ICNIRPguidelines for use of the device at the ear is1.30 W/kg.
Use of device accessories may result indifferent SAR values. SAR values may varydepending on national reporting and testingrequirements and the network band.Additional SAR information may be providedunder product information atwww.nokia.com.
