The fol low ing regulat ion s apply t o vessels cal l ing at Cal ifornian port s only. Al l vessels cal l ing atthese port s must comp ly w ith bot h NA-ECA and CARB regulat ions wh ich are as fol low s:-
} Vessel operators must ensure that t hey are burning low sulphur dist i l late fuel only w i thin24NM of t he coast .
} CARB are expect ing m ost vessels to burn 1% HFO in the ECA and th en swi tch to dist i l late fuelsa t t he 24NM b oundary.
} Vessel own ers could also choose to use 1% MGO or 0.5% M DO as this compl ies wi th both NA-ECA and CARB regulat ions.
} Effect ive f rom 1st Jan 2014 CARB LSM GO and LSM DO m ust cont ain 0.1% sulphur or less.
} From 1st Jan 2015 CARB wil l cease to exist as th e NA-ECA wil l dictat e th at m ax 0.1% sulph urfuel m ust be used in al l part s of the ECA.
Failure to com ply w ith CARB regulat ions wi l l result in a penalt y f ine of b etw een $1,000 and$10,000 p er day p er vio lat ion. E.g.:-
