What is the food pyramid?

Grains Group 6 servings

Bread Pasta Cereal Rice Grain foods contain carbohydrates,

which give your body energy.

Vegetables 5 servings or 2.5 cups

Broccoli Green beans Peas Carrots Vegetables are rich in nutrients, such as

vitamin C and potassium, which your body needs to work properly. Veggies also contain fiber, which aid digestion.

Fruits 4 daily servings or 2 cups

Apples Bananas Strawberries Peaches Watermelon Like vegetables, fruits are rich in

nutrients your body needs. Fruit is also naturally low in calories and fat.

Milk 3 cups/servings

Milk Yogurt Cheese Dairy foods contain calcium, a mineral

needed for strong bones.

Meat and Beans 5.5 ounce equivalents or servings

Meat Poultry Fish Dry beans Eggs Nuts Your body needs protein to maintain itself.

Your muscles, organs, and immune system are made up of mostly protein.

Oils 24 grams or 6 teaspoons

Olive oil Peanut oil Salad Dressing Margarine Butter There are different categories of fats,

including unsaturated, saturated, and trans fats.
