Oakthorpe News
Dear Parents
What a lovely sunny few weeks we have had. Perfect
weather for most of our lovely trips! It has been an
extremely busy time in school .
However we were very unlucky with the weather for the
Year 2 trip to Paradise Park. We have never had to
return from a trip due to the weather before and we are
hoping to reschedule this trip before the Summer
holidays.
Our annual Science Week gave children opportunities to
problem solve and be creative, designing and making
their own inventions and learning about inventors.
Thank you to the huge number of parents who helped
children to share their work at our first ever Science
Fair.
We were thrilled to have another successful Father’s
Day Breakfast on Friday 16th June. This was the third
time that we have held this event and we welcomed
over 100 dads, uncles, big
brothers and grandads to
breakfast. We would like to
thank Arla Dairy very much
for their contribution.

Father’s Day Breakfast
Our sports teams have had a great term. Mrs Murray
has been thrilled with the enthusiasm and the
improvement in the skills of the Rounders Team. It has
not been possible to arrange matches for the team
however there has been an excellent turnout to
sessions. The Girls’ Cricket team are league champions
for the first time! We are very proud of their
achievements. The Boys’ Cricket Team have also had a
fantastic season, they were semi-finalists in a league of
twenty-four teams.
The Year 3 and 4 Football Team were runners up in the
Enfield Football Festival at the Tottenham Hotspurs
training ground. Mr Oldham is thrilled as the team
performed brilliantly together. Look out for more news
of these stars next year.
Finally, the Oakthorpe Athletics team had great success
at District Sports. The Year 5 Girls’ Relay team took
gold. Individual winners were Krysiah in Year 4, Ty in
Year 5 and Natasha in Year 5 all taking gold medals in
their 60m sprint races.
All this and we still have our Health, Fun and Fitness
Week next week. Children can wear their PE kits and
trainers all week and we look forward to seeing you all
cheering your children on at Sports days .

On Thursday 13th July we will be celebrating Walk to
School Day. Children and parents are invited to meet
their teachers in the carpark of Tottenhall Recreation
Ground at 8.30am. Children, parents and teachers will
then walk to school together to promote walking to
school as a healthy and environmentally friendly
alternative to car journeys.

Trips and visits
Year 1 children had a fantastic trip to Legoland. Children
enjoyed a busy day with rides including Pirate Falls, the
Spinning Spider, the Lego Driving School and watching
the Pirates of Skeleton Bay show. Staff who attended
the trip were full of praise for the children’s excellent
behaviour. Thank you to the Year 1 parents for their
support following issues with transport all day and a
challenging journey home .
We had fantastic support
from parents who attended
this trip too!
Our annual reception trip to the farm is always a big hit
and this year was no exception! Children enjoyed
seeing a great range of animals including some very
cheeky meerkats and a heavily pregnant cow. Mrs
Hollamby felt right at home
with the highland cows. The
children particularly enjoyed
jumping on the large
inflatable pillow in the play
area.
Residential visits are an important part of the school
year. Both children and staff look forward to these
events as they offer opportunities for the children that
they cannot access in school.
Children develop independence, resilience, courage
and determination whilst on these visits as they take
responsibility for their own kit, take part in
adventurous activities and spend time with their
friends and teachers away from home.
Staff always come back from the visits enthusiastically
talking about children who have come out of their
shells and demonstrated special skills and talents.
Children come back full of excitement talking about
their achievements and favourite experiences.
Children who were not able to take part in residentials
have also taken part in day trips and activities
including park visits and cooking.

Reception trip to the farm
Well done to Glee Club! In June the Oakthorpe Glee Club had the chance to
perform in Millfield Theatre. The children had a great
time singing and dancing to an audience and were
praised by the judges for their polished performance,
smart costumes and strong vocals. The children per-
formed Teacher’s Pet a number from School of Rock
the Musical. Special congratulations go to Krysiah
Travis who won a
Pineapple Performing Arts
scholarship for her out-
standing performance.

Diary of Events
During the Summer term we have been
focusing on improving our lunchtime
behaviour. Children have been remind-
ed about using their cutlery, eating with
their mouths closed, keeping food on
their plates (not on the floor) and taking
their plates and cutlery to the counter. Please spend
some time discussing table manners with your child.
Table Manners—a school focus!
We look forward to seeing all our families at school events. If for any reason you or a member or your family require special arrangements, please
contact the school office and we will try to meet your needs.
Attendance
Well done to the classes whose attendance is close to our target of 97% . Our overall attend-ance so far this year is 96.25%.
With just a few weeks left until the end of term, let’s see if we can reach 97%.
Thank you to everyone who supported our Family
Bingo event. We have received great feedback
from families who attended. It was lovely to see
such a great turnout for a new event. FOO raised
£600 at this event!
