Sunday Reading Reflection It is so easy to not persevere in any number of things. In being good, in working toward proclaiming Christ to others or keeping it up, prayer, good works, enduring sufferings patiently. Christ gives us a sense of how it will work out so that we can be
successful. He calls us to be liberal and in a way wistful, or almost reckless with our love, our trying to share Christ with others. There are some (but they are rare) who are indeed almost too eager to share Christ with others, but by far and away it is the case that most of us are way too conservative (holding back) in sharing Christ with others. I know one guy who was too forward and held back a bit in the workplace and is now more successful as people in that environment are charmed by his or her goodness, virtue, fruitfulness. These are people who come to ask, “by what power and by whose name do you love so much?” Then the name of Jesus, the reality of the sacramental life of the Church and the whole nine yards can be shared. Others of us retreat behind the true idea that we should “preach constantly and sometimes use words.” This is all too often a cop out. We are afraid to talk of faith to others. And unless we follow through with a life of dramatic charity, we will not get the questions spontaneously from others that invite the sharing of Christ and his Church. And so, some need to “step out” and directly share more, invite others to Church, bring up Jesus and prayer in conversations more, and others (quite few however) need to do less of that kind of work and more of just letting others read their lives and having those impacted ask to know the reason for the glorification they see. What about frequency? We are always trying to tune things. We are always trying to find the right rhythm for things. When to eat and how much, when to exercise and how often and in which way. How to adjust these things at different times. Corona quarantining has thrown a lot of our rhythms off but also allowed us to do a reset and maybe even find new and improved frequencies in our lives that move us closer to a life of virtue. The frequency of sharing to having that sharing be fruitful is dramatic. Jesus tells us that we should not be disappointed when we try to share Christ, invite someone to Church or back to Church, or try to pray the rosary or the Liturgy of the Hours with others, and find rejection. He tells us that most of the time our attempts will end in failure. He details the reasons why these attempts might immediately or eventually fail. The answer to this reality is to do it a lot. Since most of our attempts will fail, we should just do it always. We
shouldn’t worry about running out of energy. He will give us an unending supply. We just keep trying and trying. We are not planting a few precious seeds and tending to them as if they were our only hope. We are scattering seeds liberally knowing that most of them will not bear fruit. The seed, i.e. Jesus, who we are trying to share, will never run out. We don’t need to worry about that. The success we should look forward to is the single attempt to share Christ, of our many thousands of overt or covert attempts, working. When it works it is super fruitful. Vocations to religious life are a way to think about this concretely in our own time. A person who knows Christ is joyfully seeking to find and do the will of the Father, for this is the only happiness. Some of us should discern to become monks and nuns. This is the highest call and will bring the most good. Some should discern to become soldiers and police and firemen for these are works that are full of sacrifice more than ever and therefore are even more special to the Christian. Now we need to inspire young people to marry and have generous families, for this too is becoming a thing that is more configured to Christ than ever. There are people who should discern to go into politics, for it is a life of sacrifice and suffering like never before and if good people don’t do it, bad people will cause untold suffering. We know we need people to go into Holy Orders. This is three, Bishop, Priest, Deacon. We need this. Without moms and dads, no family, no Church no society. Without Priests, no eucharist, no completion of baptism, no confession, no tabernacle full, no “Jesus with us.” It is the case that these vocations are ways of seeing the seed of Christ become fruitful. We need to ask every young man and woman to first seriously consider religious life. It is the way to start. If you are not called to that then maybe you are called to be married (really married.) I think how it has never been the case that people would pray for vocations to the Bishophood. It is the case that we probably should. It is not an easy job and it is indispensable to the Christian dispensation. All in all, we need to plant the seed of friendship with Christ in others all the time knowing that most of our efforts will be fruitless, knowing that we will never grow tired of sharing him because of discouraging results or of his failing to resupply our strength, and looking forward to the rare but wildly successful converts that will, through us, give great glory to God. Other Notes I am redoubling my efforts at resanitizing my hands during the distribution of Holy Communion. If there is any contact or breathing on my hands during distribution, I will take better care to resanitize. Outdoors and in the sun has been proven to kill many viruses and the open air helps droplets to move and not linger. I am not a doctor or a virus expert as you know. I have talked to the Board of Health about these concerns just to make sure. Also, Jesus did his proclamation of the Kingdom of God in Synagogues and Temples but also outside as we see in today’s Gospel, so I think we should continue to enjoy that. The readings are easily attainable so that you can read along and my homily as well as all the texts of Mass are things you can be assisted with electronically, so if you can’t hear everything, these aids help you to get the words and are much more elegant than an obnoxious echoing outdoor sound system, which, with the help of the lay faithful, we will continue to improve. I would like to thank Worthy Sir Steven Best, for the improvements he has spent hours installing and for the people who are praying in the open Churches. We have morning Mass now at 7:10 a.m. for the benefit of the factory workers who get out at 7:00 a.m. in our area. Monday at St. Joe’s, Tuesday at St. James’, Wednesday at St. John’s, Thursday announced mass times, Friday at St. Joe’s, and Saturday at St. James’. Lastly, there have been so many transitions in our lives, the world, the Church, and our local Churches I know. As upsetting and stressful as it is, do you think it is not stressful and upsetting to me? It is, I assure you and more so. When things settle and guaranteeing things is not so crazy, I would like to have a thank you dinner for all the staff who have moved on or retired. It is especially upsetting to see Mr. and Mrs. Blackwell (don’t worry Mrs. Blackwell is still going to be playing the organ) retire from coordinating music and not have this done with the proper thank you and celebrations and so on and so forth. They are so great it boggles the mind and the whole community needs to celebrate them. We will. Stay tuned. God is good. One thing we can do is fix the background and undergirding of the Churches during these times and we have been. Phone systems are going to be improved and cheaper, the entrance work and things like waxing of floors and improving of tech can and are being done in ways that are better and cheaper. It is good to be about to do these things well. I got to go. Wish I could put more pictures in the bulletin for you all and explain them. God is good. If anyone wants to help with the paint for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit Murals for the floors of the narthexes, it costs $1629.75 Thank you to Megan Barnes, newly confirmed and a mural artist, for donating her time and talent. ,

Leaving the Position of Director of Religious Education for Our Lady of Grace Parish
After a decade of Ministering to Our Lady of Grace Religious Education Families, I am Leaving the Position of DRE; in pursuit of personal endeavors. It has been my honor and privilege to serve our
families in collaboration with the many, many Religious Education Small Group Leaders and Sacramental Coordinators; without whose dedication it would not have been possible. Thank you so very much, dear Leaders and Coordinators for your invaluable commitment, over these past 10
years!
It is with great pleasure and gratitude that I can announce my successor, to take the Office of Religious Education for Our Lady of Grace Parish; David Flournoy, a son of Pepperell, a dynamic young man full of faith, enthusiasm and creativity, who has served as a lay missionary in South
America for these past few years. David is recently engaged to a beautiful young woman, Anna! Congratulations, as you both plan your future together!!! David will be transitioning
into the position of DRE as I transition out, over these next few weeks. David’s Contact information: Email: david@ourladyofgracema.org Tel: 978-433-2028
While the future may be more uncertain due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, what we hold and
believe; our Faith, remains true! We are united with the Living Presence of the Holy Trinity, and the Holy Family! We are fortified by the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist. We have the heavenly intercession of the Angels & Saints, and the Holy Souls, that we help by prayer and deed; once
released from Purgatory, will always be at our side! We have the love, guidance and care of our Parents, Families, and Church Community. With all these reassurances, we can stand firm, trust in
Divine Mercy, and follow the path through…journey well!
Every blessing and prayer for now, and always! Robert
