HISTORY OF THE FRIENDS• The Friends of UNCW is a volunteer organization that formed in December

1963 to help Wilmington College (now UNCW) increase the library's holdings from 11,000 volumes to 50,000 volumes — a minimum requirement at the time for accreditation as a four-year institution. The Friends have been steadfast UNCW supporters for more 50 years.

• The organization's current contributions include supporting a merit scholarship and annually funding special projects based on proposals from UNCW faculty and staff.

• Last year, the friends raised $19,000 through the annual appeal• Board members provide

ANNUAL APPEAL LETTER

• In March 2007, the Friends of UNCW Board of Directors started the Friends of UNCW Merit Scholarship Endowment.

FRIENDS OF UNCW SCHOLARSHIP

Awarded to an in-state freshman Honors student to assist in recruiting and retaining academically strong students.

Must remain an honors student in good standing to be eligible for renewal

FRIENDS OF UNCW GRANTS

• Grants for UNCW staff and faculty from across campus

• Last fiscal year we awarded 15 grants

• Applications will be received from UNCW staff and faculty in early 2020

• Grants committee meets in February

• Grants Awards Coffee Thursday, April 30
