Oxygen is a basic need required for life. Death occurs within in minutes if breathing stops. Brain damage & serious illness occurs without oxygen

E. Non re-breathing mask-no exhaled or room air enter bag, pure- O2 in bag –highest level of O2 for a pt.- keep bag inflated-fill with air prior to putting on pt.

Post precautions outside of room Limit situations that may start fires:

-no smoking- no open flames- ground electrical equipment- avoid electric razor- avoid use of frayed cords- avoid static electricity

-know how to transport O2 safely

Report repair or inadequate fx. Keep tubing off floor Make sure tubing kinked RN must adjust O2 flow rates NA can monitor flow rate

You are assisting with activities in a nsg. Home. Three residents are receiving oxygen. When attending activities, one resident has a liquid portable oxygen unit and two residents have portable oxygen tanks. What is your responsibility related to oxygen for the 3 residents?

You must check the oxygen level when you are with the pt. using oxygen. Report low levels to the RN.
