WHAT DOES THE PRESIDENT DO?

Roles and Duties:

Preside over meetings – (use confidence and have a strong workable knowledge of parliamentary procedure)

Keep order, be fair and neutral on issues Ensure that all voices and opinions are heard Cast deciding vote when there is a tie

Stand and use the podium and or gavel with confidence but do not abuse such “power”

Avoid the use of “I” as a president – use phrases like, “the chair” or “your president”

If you feel strongly about sharing your personal opinions on a subject, you must give the chair to the vice president and you cannot resume as president until the issue has been decided

When absent from a meeting, let the club leader and Vice President know in advance so they can arrange to fulfill your duties

VICE PRESIDENTS – WHERE DO THEY FIT?

Vice Presidents need to follow all of the rules previously stated about the President in case they have to preside in the absence of the President

Include other officers/members to help you plan the monthly programs

Make sure the President is aware of your programming ideas so he/she is not caught off guard
