• ThemanagementatPalmBeachKennelClubtakesitsresponsibilitiesforgreyhoundwelfareveryseriously.AlthoughPBKCdoesnotownthegreyhoundsthatrunatourtrack,wehaverulesandcontractprovisionsinplacethatrequireourkenneloperatorstofollowproperproceduresincaringfortheirgreyhounds.TheStateofFloridaandPBKCofficialsdoroutineinspectionsofthekennelsandwillfollowupifthereareanyissues.

• Trackveterinarianonhandforeveryracedaycloselymonitoringtheconditionofallgreyhounds,sothatanyillnessesorinjuriesarequicklydetectedandtreated.

• Stateoftheindustrytracksafelyproceduresincludingimprovementstothetracksurface,newsaferluretechnologies,saferfencing,wideningofturnsandothertechniques.

• PBKCalsotakesprideinitsactivesupportofgreyhoundadoptionwith:AwesomeGreyhoundAdoption/Hounds&Heroes,ForeverGreyhoundAdoptions,GreyedAGreyhounds,GreyhoundPetAdoptionandGreyhoundSupportTransport.

• Since1932,PalmBeachKennelClubhasbeenoneofPalmBeachCounty’smostpopularattractionsprovidingfunandexcitementtoresidentsandvisitorstothearea.

Mostgreyhoundsracetwiceaweek.Onnon-racedays,theyexercisewithkennelmatesinasprintpath.Somedogsalsoenjoyasoakinawhirlpooltoeasetightorsoremuscles,andothersmayswimatthebeach.

Professionalathletes,likegreyhounds,arefedhighqualityfoodthatmeetstheirnutritionalneeds.Themealsconsistofrawmeatthathasbeenfrozen,kibble,acarbohydratesuchasriceorpasta,and/orfruitsandvegetables.Eachtrainerhastheirownformularegardingvitaminsandothersupplements.

Cratingisthesafestwaytocomfortablyhousealargenumberofdogs.Italsoreducesthechancesoffightsbyprovidingthedogswithaspaceoftheirowntoeat,rest,andsleep.Greyhoundsreceiveplentyofhumaninteractionandsocializationatthetrack.

TRACK KENNELS:Trackkennelsarekeptclean,safe,andclimatecontrolledtomaintainaconsistenttemperature.Smokealarmsandcarbonmonoxidedetectorsareusedinadditiontoasecuritysystemthatmonitorsthekennels24hoursaday.Anyunusualfluctuationintemperaturewillsetoffanalarmthatalertstheguardshack.

TRACK CRATES:Trackcratesarelargeenoughforthegreyhoundstostandup,turnaround,roach,andsharewithafriend.

Theminimumsizeofatrackcrateis:42”x34”x32”=26.4ft3.Mosttrackcratesarelarger.

Acommonpetcratesizeis:42”x28”x30”=20.4ft3

TRACK TURN OUTS:Thegreyhoundsareturnedoutanaverageoffivetimesaday.Eachturnoutistypically30to90minutesandvarydependingontheweather.Thedogsareoutsideforashorterperiodoftimewhenit’stoohotorraining,forexample.

Muzzlesarewornasasafetyprecaution.Greyhoundshavenotoriouslythinskin.
