Dear Parishioners and Visitors,
Archbishop Mark Coleridge will be visiting the Parish on Saturday 6th August and attending
the Parish Luncheon at the River Deck Restaurant. Archbishop Mark will speak to us about
the recent Synod on the Family in October 2015 and the Pope’s groundbreaking exhortation
“Amoris Laetitia” (the Joy of Love). Therefore I invite people to attend this Parish gathering
to hear our Archbishop talk about his experience at the Synod and the letter from Pope
Francis.
Our First Communion programme commences on the 18th July for 51 children in the
parish. Parents are reminded that worksheets will be emailed from the 18th and that children
will be expected to attend Masses every weekend during this time of preparation. First Communion Masses start on
the weekend of the 27/28 August at Tewantin, 4th September at Sunshine Beach and 11th September at Pomona.
Parents are asked to book in their children for one of these First Communion celebrations through the Parish Office.
Baptism for Older Children Programme commences Wednesday 27th July at Tewantin Church. If your child is in
Year 2 to Year 7 and has not been baptized please contact the parish Office ASAP to enrol in this next Programme.
Just a reminder that the Parish School FETE is on the 13th August this year. This is the major fundraising event for
the Parish School of St Thomas More and is a great community building event. Please support the FETE this year.
For more information contact the School on 5449 2022.
One of the services the Parish offers is the Tewantin and Sunshine Beach Piety and Book Stalls. These stalls have a
range of religious gifts and books including Sunday Missals and devotional booklets. Profits from these stalls are
donated back to the Parish for its Pastoral works.
On page 4 of the Newsletter this weekend is an invitation to the Year of Mercy Concert on the 29th October. This
concert is a great way to celebrate the Year of Mercy and also to give thanks to the many Volunteers who perform
various acts of Mercy in our parish every week. This is a free concert with an afternoon tea in the Tewantin Parish
Hall. All Parishioners are invited to attend.
The Parish Rugfest is just around the corner on the 16th July so please get your tickets as soon as possible from the
Churches or the Parish Office. This is an important Fundraising event for the overseas Mission project in Tondo.

St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal 9th/10th July 2016
St Vincent de Paul Society Winter Appeal: Rethink Homelessness
This year’s Winter Appeal asks us to ‘Rethink Homelessness’, with a focus on women experiencing
homelessness. The majority of Australians turning to specialist homelessness services are female. When you
support St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal you are helping our dedicated members and volunteers assist the people
who turn to us and make a real difference to their lives.
As we brace ourselves for another winter, some people need hope more than anything. Can you help?
This appeal will be taken up as a retiring collection at all the Masses this weekend.
Envelopes will be available for Parishioners to use.

Next Day Trip - Tuesday 19 July 2016 - CANCELLED
Unfortunately due to insufficient bookings the committee has had no
choice but to cancel this trip.
We have enjoyed providing enjoyable and affordable outings since 2006
however due to a consistent decline in attendees over the last four trips it
has been decided to put the Day Trippers outings into abeyance for the
remainder of this year. The Committee will be reviewing the Day Trippers’
ministry with the hope of recommencing in 2017, provided there is
sufficient interest and the trips can be financially viable. We thank the
Committee and those who for many years have been supporting the Day
Trippers ministry. We apologise for any inconvenience. Fr Mark
