Long wedding veils have been a trend for many years; however, the length of these veils often varies, and some are much longer than others. How long, do you ask? Well, the Guinness World Record for the longest veil is 23,000

feet, which is more than 63 football fields in length.

Hello, Calgary-Klein!The way Albertans are responding to the needs that have arisen in our society as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic makes me proud to be one. We have seen increased levels of civic engagement in all of the layers that make up our communities. Community associations - organizations that are always hard at work to add to the quality of life in their community - have launched initiatives to engage with residents and support them across Calgary-Klein. They are sharing resources and thinking up activities that bring people together virtually. Organizations across the city are offering help feeding pets, shopping for seniors, entertaining kids, and bringing programs right into our living rooms. At the Provincial level, the Government of Alberta has launched the Bits and Pieces program, borne out of Albertans’ desire to help. The program is named after the “bits and pieces program” established by Canada’s Minister of Munitions and Supply during the Second World War, C. D. Howe. The program coordinated innovative production and procurement efforts from across the Canadian economy to support the war effort, and that is exactly what its 2020 version aims to do. But this program was inspired by the more than 1100 offers of support from private and non-profit organizations. It’s an amazing display of not just Albertans’ community spirit and generosity but also of innovative thinking. Alberta distilleries are now producing hand sanitizers and a drapery manufacturer began producing medical garments. This made in Alberta approach is exactly what our economy will need when it reopens: creative thinking will lead the way for innovation to revive companies that suffered losses throughout this crisis. We are learning the skills that we will need to thrive in the future. We will weather this storm together, and we will reap the benefits of our work. I have never been more proud to be an Albertan.

Stay healthy. Jeremy Constituency Office
